At least here in Finland psychology is one of the hardest fields to get into uni. Only straight A girls allowed.
Funny thing is that you can get psychology degree in theology but the majority is unaware of this. Male psychologists mostly took this route.

I'm at a major Canadian university and it's called "Gender Studies" here.
No one I know, not even the profs in my department, respect that faculty. We literally rip on them all day in the office.

The limited market for jobs that would benefit from someone with a degree like that is oversaturated. There is no more room, but people still insist on degrees in gender studies and other bullshit then find themselves jobless.
Tl;dr it's a real thing, but there are too many degrees out there for a limited job market.
