>Liberal-National Coalition
A centre-right coalition of the Liberal party and the National party. The Liberal party is perceived as being the party of big business, corporate fat cats, and that kind of thing, but also the party of strong economic management, conservative policies, tough borders, and generally a steady hand at the wheel. The National party is farmers, and much much smaller than the Liberal party. However, without the L-N coalition they'd lose every election to Labor.

>Labor
Spelled wrong because they didn't want to be confused with British Labour, the Labor party is the "working man's" party. They're centre-left, big on unions, and are perceived as being a 'tax-and-spend' party. They are perceived as the party of spending huge quantities on welfare and pissing away money into waste, but they're also seen to be investors who spend big on projects that matter, like national fibre or health and schools. Australia's largest and most successful party. If the Liberals and Nationals didn't team up to fight them we'd be in a one-party system.

>Greens
HURR DURR ENDANGERED ANIMALS. They're becoming a more important party, because as people turn away from the big 2 they tend towards the Greens. Ever the party of hipsters, faggots, and hipster faggots, they are your typically ultra-lefties. However, they're also getting support in rural Australia - traditionally conservative seats - because the Greens are the only party really sticking up for agriculture against oil companies or petrochemicals. Strange bedfellows, yes, but any port in a storm.

>Independents and Minor Parties
Australian parliament usually ends up with the Libs and the Labs having rouuughly equal numbers of seats, so the government requires the support of 3 or 4 out of 6 or 7 independents or minor parties to actually pass legislation. These independents range from batshit crazy to agrarian nationalists, and they're always interesting and ever-changing.

Let me use a famous analogy.

Anyone can walk into the Ritz and order a meal and eat it. We're all equally free in that sense.

However, you and I can't really afford to do that, can we? We don't meet the dress code, the food is too expensive, it's just not really in our price range. So while we have that freedom, what good is it to us? Freedoms that you cant use aren't useful, so what's the point of them? You can't eat your principles. Might as well have something useful than a vague, nebulous concept of "at least I'm free!"

And this is why Australia consistently outperforms America in all the areas that matter.
>>
Liberal preference.

I don't know what is going to happen in Victoria this election, people are mostly furious with Labor after they were voted in and fucked up everything within 6 months of winning the state.

>>
>>76161127
>Most Americans CAN afford a $400 meal but we don't want to spend $400 for a fucking 4 course steak dinner.
Because you can't really afford it, can you?

Sure, you could go and buy it, you'd be able to scrape up enough money, but it'd be a terrible decision because you're too poor to dump $400 on food. It's not a useful freedom for you, because you don't have enough money to really enjoy it.

You can argue the semantics of this dumb analogy for as long as you like, that's not the point of it. Freedom doesn't matter if you can't use it. It's better to focus on practical issues that can actually be fixed rather than a never-ending pursuit of a vague concept that nobody really cares about anyway.

America didn't rebel over muh freedoms, they rebelled over taxes. That should tell you all you need to know about what really matters.

The trouble with Australia, is that it's full of Australians!..

Perhaps the time has come to, re-institute an old custom. Grant them primae noctis.

First night, with any common girl inhabiting their lands is married, our nobles shall have sexual rights to her on the night of her wedding.

If we can't get them out, we'll breed them out.

Politicians, for one. In fact, this is the only thing that matters. I wouldn't care about wealth inequality except that money = power.

Rich people have special access to the political system that ordinary Australians do not have.

If money equals power then wealth inequality is political inequality, and political inequality is the enemy.

LDP is the most red pilled party on immigration as well.

>Replace the current points-based quota system with a tariff system where immigrants pay for the right to become a permanent resident (PR) in Australia.
>No eligibility for welfare
> Increase barriers to citizenship so Australia can sustain a high level of immigration and relatively free movement of people without the risk that new immigrants will undermine our democracy or social harmony.

The points-based system is good, the problem being that the cap isn't much lower. This proposal still means Chinese domination, it'll probably mean an even higher amount of the bastards. LDP want to raise the intake iirc and not just for immigration but also refugees.

Da, comrade.

The point is that you wondered why people would actively argue against freedom. The answer is that freedom comes with costs, and some people would rather not pay the price for a useless freedom that won't benefit them in any way. Some people would rather have money, stability, or whatever else, instead of freedom.

ALA and One Nation don't have any candidates in my electorate of Robertson. To be fair this one will swing back to Labor as it's blue collar as fuck. I'll vote the furthest right through to liberal.

Senate will be One Nation then ALA.
>>
I'm voting on the basis that I dislike Turnbull intensely; I believe the Coalition would have won, with a reduced majority, under Tony; I think that Labor would be worse than Turnbull, but that the prospect of Turnbull feeling that a victory gives him a mandate to drag the government to the left. So consequently, my vote will look like this:

>Lower House:
>Vote 1 for a conservative independent
>Vote 2 for my local Liberal member
>If I had a National candidate in a three corner contest they would be my first vote, above the other two.

>Upper House:
>Vote 1-2 LDP candidates in order of what I can find out about them
>Votes 3-5 Liberal candidates that voted for Tony Abbott in the spill
>The usual last places on the ballot are reserved for the Greens and Labor; this time, the three Lib candidates that voted for Turnbull will take the bottom, with Greens and Labor above them
>The rest of the ballot will be filled in

>Betting:
I got in fairly early. I usually give myself an "insurance" bet on Labor - the rationale being if they win I have enough to buy a nice bottle of something to console myself with. This time, I've spread myself around back when a Lib win was a fait accompli, so I got pretty good odds; long story short, if the Libs win with less than 53:47 2PP I get a nice dinner with friends paid for; if they lose, I have enough for a couple of very nice bottles, or one way of a Europe plane ticket, or a new camera lens or handgun.
>>
>>76165201
I see. To be honest, you should try to avoid the major parties as much as possible in your Senate vote, so perhaps try to find two other right-wing parties (even if they're throwaway/filler votes) to fill up your ballot. Push come to shove, you could perhaps use Liberal as a last resort.
But besides that, I like the look of your vote, not bad at all.

>>
>>76165221
>Derp I forgot a core part of my reasoning:

And it will be even worse if we elect socialists like Shorten. Elect him and the university Marxists and NEETS win.

Turnbull is cutting company tax rates, increasing the 37.5% tax bracket threshold from 80K to 86K (paying for it with the increases in tobacco taxes) and trying to push an agenda of productivity growth, innovation and international competitiveness.

I like a lot of the stuff he's doing. Every single fucking year people say the current budget will kill NEETS because its so cruel. Australia is the most egalitarian Anglo country in the world, and were on par with countries like Sweden, France and Germany.

Were still going to be a country with ridiculously high wages, generous welfare/NEET programs and socially liberal policies - I just think Turnbull's agenda will do a far better job than Shorten's at improving the economy and reducing our deficits. Do you honestly think Labor is going to run surpluses? Good luck with that.

By the way, please explain why you think Abbot was so terrible without making meme comments like "he was an idiot" or "he was a bigot".

My goal is to get into Corporate Finance, though its extremely competitive. I'm probably going to try and land anything in a finance stream at a big 4 bank or accounting firm and transfer to CF at one of the big 4 accounting firms or I&IB at the banks. I don't want to apply to all of the top-tier streams and get rejected for everything.

I don't think i'm fucked, but setting for some shit-tier grad program will fuck my shit up. If I don't have an internship or grad offer at the end of the year i'm going to do honours.

No way, I'm the exact same! I basically only play SNES now, which is like once every two weeks or so. In my first post, I meant habitual gaming as a hobby, just to be clear. I think old games are better than the new stuff, it's not just nostalgia goggles - they really are better. They have actual replayability - you don't get that with modern vidya.
>>
>>76166570

videogames are for children, they are time sinks too, it's ironic, because I'm posting on 4chan, but 4chan isn't nearly as large a time sink as videogames are
>>
>>76167100
All that has improved with modern vidya is the graphics, and I'm not even sure that that actually improves the games.

For example in GTA V the world is actually too detailed to the point that it is distracting. A simpler environment, even if less "realistic" actually works better.
>>
>>76166459

>I think I am done with vidya now. I think I have moved on.

This. I still like vidya, but I've lost all of the passion and excitement I had when I was 13-16. Most games now are just the same shit and when there is the rare game that is actually good, I get bored after a couple of hours.

I'm definitely buying COD4 remastered and BF1 though. COD4 and MW2 were GOAT.

I think a mixture of getting older and nostalgia. The 13-15 year olds playing COD (and the other 'good' games) right now will probably think they are the GOATs in the next 5 years.
