My dad works 12 hours or more a day 5 days a week, usually has the weekends off but not always and he makes close to 100,000. It's true though. Even in my shitty rural area I could go get a job working for Coca Cola and make almost 50k. Or work in management at a wal mart or supermarket (not store manager, just lower management). Hell you can make almost 40k managing a McDicks. 40k is a respectable income, but it's nothing worth bragging about, especially if you have to work more than 45 hours for it.

Most entry level jobs are around 25-35k per year so yes 40k a year isn't that laudable. The mileage on that will vary depending on where live too. It won't go far in NYC or other urban areas like in Cali.

That's Communism you're describing. When you have no other alternative for employment because the company is owned by the government, they can decide what they want to pay you, if at all. Competition makes what you're describing possible, and the only reason we have oligopolies forming is because of their abuse of the state, which will ALWAYS happen when the State is big.
