Yes it's degenerate. Cant even remember the last time I had a drink. Unfortunately I cannot control my intake, one turns into a 6 pack and bottle of rum. I've had good night's partying when I was 18-25 but eventually you need to put it down.
I'd rather have a joint and fall asleep to a movie to relax these days but again I haven't had a smoke for ages.
We do have a problem here in Australia, a binge drinking culture. Known many young people whose lives are ruined now due to the drink. Its not worth it lads.
