Foucault is wrongly demonized a lot of the time the language he developed is used in ways he never intended. He wasn't a complete liberationist, and although I don't agree with almost anything he said its sad to see a philosopher simplified and changed for a silly political end. He was a decent historian at least. He was air-headed and his conclusions were often based on intuition and sophism, but that's common in Continental philosophy.

Not really, the book is more or less completely about social structures that delegitimize outsiders. Like Prison and the creation of the criminal class (originally there were no prisons, criminals were killed or exiled) and psychiatry and the creation of the mentally ill class (originally there were eccentrics or raving lunatics, but no permanent lower class of "insane" or "partly sane")
The main thrust of the book is that one shouldn't try to seek acceptance for these classes, but rather abolish their construction because it implies inherent inferiority and will always be used in that way.
It addresses the way the family leads to the acceptance of hierarchical structures, but that's not what it's about. Anti-Oedipus by Deleuze addresses the subject more directly.
