I don't really think his religion matters because this was not a religiously motivated attack, just a personal dispute that happened to happen on a campus.
We can clearly say that San Bernardino was a terrorist attack motivated by radical Islam, but it doesn't really matter if this guy was a Hindu, Muslim, Jew, etc. due to the nature of the incident.
