I think the problem is that people assume "facists" are stupid, they're not. The media in Europe especially, has portrayed the "far right" as just a bunch of football hooligans and it's starting to backfire on them as more people realize that's not the case, which is why the EU is threatening to effectively ban "far-right" parties. Once they start banning parties or sanctioning against them it's only going to bolster their stregth and support, it will turn things from peaceful elections to violence on the streets, a fight which leftists and the establishment won't win.
