Election is only 4 weeks away mates.

Have you decided who you're voting for?

For me the most interesting element of the election is going to be the Nick Xenophon factor.

If he can get 20%+ of the vote in SA he will be breaking new ground in the modern era. Could it be the start of the unraveling of Lib/Lab 2 party dominance in the future?

No.

I think anyone paying attention can see that Turnbull is the liberal party's little bitch, his personal views aren't going to hold influence over party positions. He's just guy who is eloquent and mildly likeable.

Abbott's mates are still the real leaders in the party.
>>

You are dead wrong m8. If Turnbull wins this election he will be vindicated and have a mandate to push his own agenda.

One of the well-known features of the Liberal Party is their slavish devotion to a successful leader.

He literally can't, he's not a president, it's majority rule and whilst a majority decided to put him at the front that majority is now keeping him in line.

m8 you are a pleb who doesn't understand how the power of the PMs office has grown over the past 30 years.

Just look how powerless the party room was to stop Based Tone even when he was driving the government to ruin.

Paul Keating PM decided to sell the Commonwealth Bank without even consulting the party. He announced it to the media before he told cabinet.

Encourage working families

>>
>>76064160
Where the fuck do you get this idea from? Seriously. The Labor party is all about getting as many people as possible to become dependent on the government so that they are forced to vote for Labor in order for them to survive. Labors whole agenda is to promise you all sorts of "entitlements" and handouts while taking your money from you to pay for those very things. The real clincher is that those services, like all government services, is mired in inefficient bureaucracy and waste. All the while your tax money is paying for it. Nothing is for free mate. You're better off getting taxed less so that you can, with your own free will, choose what services you want with the money that you earned.

Assuming this happened, how much of an effect would this have on your life or financially? If you're a healthy, semi-active person you'll need to see a doctor probably once a year

Then don't use them. The whole point of privatization is that if you don't like the company you're using then change to another that is better.

Boo hoo.

Business means jobs. As long as labour laws aren't eroded any further I'm okay.

Can't survive on New start? Add the rent assistance, childcare payments etc etc you won't starve and I'm fucking paying

who are you voting for then
>>
1. LDP
2. Liberal

Rest don't matter

Xenophon is a contrarian populist who will change his policies every few months. If he gets any other members elected we'll see a PUP situation, the party is completely divided. Rebekha Sharkie is a Jacqui Lambie waiting to happen. James Stacey is probably the best one of the lot.

ALA is a front for Zionism, Family First are wacky evangelicals, One Nation is led by a moron (one with a point - I'd consider them if they had eloquent members), ALP will burden us with debt and the less said about the Greens the better.

Barely.

I remember how much of a fuss everybody kicked up about the idea of a $5 co-payment which is frankly, a good idea.

As someone in the lower-class, who goes to the doctors maybe twice a year I can tell you that having to pay (a little) would be the best thing for services, clinics are flooded with entitled females going in for colds and headaches, all of these cunts wouldn't be there if they had to put even $2 forward. Whip out mum's medicare card and you don't have to work though.

Unless if you're going to the doctor everyday then an extra $5 per visit is fucking nothing. I know people who whinge and complained about it while downing a premixed rum and coke. All it'll take is drink one less alcoholic beverage. If it was $50 per visit - then I'd see the problem.

>>
>>76065602
Why? Students get tanked every weekend, they can afford $5 every year

The amended changes had exceptions for pensioners and people with chronic conditions that required regular doctors visits

The $5 copayment was never about revenue, it was about deterring people from visting the GP when they've got a case of the sniffles. Most of the time when you're sick you don't need a doctor, you need panadol, 3 decent meals a day and maybe a day off - you don't need to burden the health system. If the $X barrier exists then people will think twice instead of waltzing in when they sneeze

Students and poor people can afford $5, find some coins in the gutter and you're golden.

Go fuck yourself you small-minded retard.

Intelligent people who disagree with you do exist, and some of them are a part of the Greens. These people see some of the same problems that you do, and some of their solutions to those problems are effective and practical. Decrying these solutions based on where they come from, and not what they are, is fucking retarded. If you can't look past your own ideological blinkers to do what is best for the nation then you ought to be shot.

>BUT I DON'T LIKE THE GREENS.
Cool. Position noted. This doesn't change the fact that the Greens have some policies that are effective, practical, and desirable.

You are the direct counterpart of the progressive left. You are the useful idiot of the "other side" of politics because you are incapable of thinking for yourself and submit slavishly to brand loyalty. You belong in a gas chamber. I probably agree with you on a lot of issues, but I'd rather have you dead than on my side because you make the rest of us look bad by association.

There is not "left" and "right", there are "smart" and "stupid". Smarts exist on the left and right, and so do stupid people. The only enemy is the stupid people - smart people who disagree with you are allies in the making.

The parties would veto all of your changes except for the El Presidente and his dictatorial ability to veto bills. The party whose prospective El Presidente was polling the best would do anything they could to ram through your reform, and if they were the government that part at least would pass, and then they'd install their El Presidente and use him, during the Opposition's term, to continue to exert their political influence from beyond their electoral grave.

It's true. In modern Australian politics there is a choice between:
>cosmopolitan state-capitalism
or
>cosmopolitan state-capitalism

Sure, the specifics vary, and those specifics are important, but the actual governing philosophy is the same. There is no viable reactionary party. There is no viable national socialist party. There isn't even a viable Greens party.

The reason the Libs and the Labs have different policy positions is because of party politics and what their focus groups say will let them retain their base while appealing to the swing voters, not because of any actual ideological differences. It's policy by circumstance, not policy by principle. If you put Lib politicians into a Labor party room they would come out of that party room with the same policies as Labor because they are hollow men - slack-faced ghouls who exist to be re-elected and are re-elected just to exist.

the bad thing about public funded elections is that you as a taxpayer have to fund shitty politicians you might not agree with. It's also gonna be pretty hard to completely scrap private donations. I think they should just have a public donations registry done through the AEC, any donation over $100 can be traced to any party 24 hours after it has been sent.

Transparency is key.
>>
>>76068727
There are plenty of jobs out there. You just got to actually put some effort into looking for them. Seek and others like it are pretty basic searches. I find that when I have these conversations that people are just really picky with the jobs they want. You got to lower your standards and accept the fact that you're not going to get promoted within 6 months being there and that, shock horror, you're going to have to do some work.

> there's no work.

Fucking bullshit. There's plenty - you just got to be prepared to to it. Any job is better then no job. A employer looking at a resume seeing that someone was jobless for 5 years is not going to be impressed. If those 5 years were filled with: 6months dishwasher. 1 year crushing rock. 2months cleaning cars. 1 year labeling paint cans. etc etc etc. With some good reports - who's the employer going to hire?

>the bad thing about public funded elections is that you as a taxpayer have to fund shitty politicians you might not agree with
Anyone who is upset by this doesn't deserve their vote, because they demonstrate a complete lack of understanding for how democracy works. Besides, there's no way to trace where your tax dollars actually end up so who cares lol. If anyone complains just tell them that all their taxes were used for roads, wink wink.

>It's also gonna be pretty hard to completely scrap private donations.
True, but it's a worthy pursuit.

>I think they should just have a public donations registry done through the AEC, any donation over $100 can be traced to any party 24 hours after it has been sent.
We've already got a registry. It's not as stringent or as all-encompassing as that, but it does exist. The problem isn't a lack of transparency, it's that nobody cares. The electorate just flat-out doesn't seem to be bothered by it very much.

>>76069073
Because in every other funding model money becomes equivalent to power. Democracy is based on a fundamental principle roughly equivalent to 'one man - one vote'. Put another way: everyone should get equal say. But we all know this isn't the case. Money talks.

True democracy requires one of the following to be the case:
1. everyone has the same amount of money, so everyone has the same amount of bribing power
2. money is taken out of politics so that wealth no longer increases your political clout
So which do you want? Taxpayer funded parties, or literal 'red scare' communism?

Nobody ever claimed democracy would be cheap, but it's an ideal that people have died for. I think that the monetary cost of public parties pales in comparison to what we've already given up for the sham that we've got.

Just like a typical socialist to put absolutely 0 faith in the public.

Forcing people to pay for politicians to shit on them is authoritarian as fuck and it doesn't take money out of politics, it forces it into it ensuring any retard gets to fuck about on free money without any supporters.

The only change that would make sense is transparency because it keeps the voter informed without reaching into his pocket or preventing him from supporting his party of choice.
