Prices are the market's way of signalling information - if a price is high, it tells people that the good is in high demand. If they are allowed to, people will then attempt to provide more of that product, because they can see they can make a profit out of it.
When you have price controls, like in Venezuela, those signals telling people that products are in demand get lost. Look, it's a very interesting dilemma. As much as you would want to whiteknight for the venezuelan people, they are a sovereign nation with an internationally recognized government.
Said government and the head of state have very clearly told everyone in the international community to shut up and mind their own business.
Any measure we take against the venezuelan government would be an act of aggression. The kind amerifats love to do all over the ME (you know how that goes).
Initiative must come from within Venezuela to avoid it being an aggression. Initiative that as of today is very weak. Because majority of people STILL support the current government, and the opposition is crushed under the boots of the state.
We shouldn't (because we don't have the authority), and can't "solve" the problem. It's not within anyone's national interests to be Venezuela's whiteknight, no one has anything to win helping take down the government. No one has any intentions to annex their territory either.
As for a humanitarian crisis happening or not, again, depends fully in the venezuelan government. We can "do something", but if they don't like it we have a civil war in our hands.
