the No-Fly list is just a list, it has a notorious history of inaccuracies and a complete lack of transparency since its inception with no reason to believe it will improve. there have been senators, children, and people with matching names barred from flights because they somehow ended up on the list, and there is no way to check if you are on the list and know way of knowing if you have been removed.
nevertheless, firearms ownership is a constitutional right and like all constitutional rights cannot be restricted without proper due process finding the person guilty of some crime or mentally deficiency. you cant arbitrary bar someone from buying a gun because they are on some list that they may or may not should be on and because some bureaucrat typed their name into a computer.

1911s are fine, they've aged well and are still one of the best choices for full sized large caliber handgun that is still quite slim for concealed carry.
however they are hardly the end all be all of handguns these days, there are plenty of newer models that are lighter, tougher, easier to strip and maintain, more reliable and come in a wider variety of calibers and configurations that will suit most modern shooters. for most applications i personally prefer the CZ-75 platform and its wacky Italian, Israeli and Turkish decedents, being double action/single action with dual stack magazines and a lot of caliber choices they better represent the modern handgun shooter and application than the old 1911 that was literally designed to be shot one-handed.
for heavy police and military uses there are things like the FNX and HK45 that greatly outperform the 1911 in every possible way.

Agreed. 1911 model is hands down one of the most fun platforms I've ever fired. The single action trigger, especially on a well made match grade version, is an absolute dream. And in terms of concealed carry, it's likely all you will ever need statically speaking.
For a duty weapon, however, there are far better options when choosing a weapon for a membership that varies greatly in pistol marksmanship skill, maintenance regularity, etc.
For my money, the best value combo of better triggers, DA/SA setup, reliability with minimum maintence and cost is the Sig Sauer 229/226. The CZ is just as good and it's largely simply a matter of personal taste.
For pure cost effective, it's hard to beat Glock as an organizational buyer.
