Statistically gun control laws are ineffective in the United States, likely because the areas that have the strictest laws already are loaded with criminals and gangs that are trading unregistered weapons on an illegal black market.
Stronger border control and a wall has been proven to statistically work, of course it wouldn't stop everyone, but a wall and a tunnel detection system and strong border patrol will stop most people attempting to come over, and not providing handouts and deporting people who overstay visa's or get caught being smuggled in by boat will also help to keep them out.
