Didnt they try to do a bombattack in Germany after the Paris attack?

Still I doubt that they will strike Europe. I mean if they are smart, they will wait after the elections. Otherwise people just might vote to keep these savages away.

I don't have it saved, but anyone remember the /ug/ meme with the destroyed hohol tanks and the badly drawn crying hedgehogs? it was said in a context that implied that trump doesn't think women are working just as hard. Of course that doesn't work any longer when you put it out of context and post it on your twitter and not to some fringe feminist group, so it looks just like advertisement for trump. Some people think hillary has moles in her campaign that try to fuck it up, because no one should be able to be this disconnected from reality/retarded...

It is a weird thing to say but I cant wait for 2016 to become 2017.

Last new years eve I made a map of the war in Syria. That map had my predictions of all the gains that would happen this year. It would be cool to see how much of it became true. So far, on some points it became trough. On other poits gains were made were I didnt suspect them and on other fronts there werent any gains made, yet.

Cant wait to share it with you on new years eve.

That is, if I dont get drunk and forget about it. But you guys are always with me were i go. Especially the Turks. Their shitposting gave me cancer.

Funny from a group that supports a dictator and oppresses 73% of the Sunnis in Syria

IS is the worst, followed by Assad and his dictatorship.

The only people in the fight worth backing are the democratic sunnis that just want representation.

The sunni rebels don't want "representation", most of them are extremist nutjobs like ahrar ar sham and jaish al islam that share the same ideology as al nusra. Under assads government people of all religions can/could live in peace, under the rebels you either pay jizya or get lynched.

Who can run me down on Assad's policies and actions in Syria? What are his goals, and why is he important?
>>
>>75802638

There are travel restrictions for men aged 18 to 42. Syria is majority Sunni, of course there will be areas under government control that are majority Sunni.

IS is also killing indiscriminately so not really that surprising that Sunnis are trying to stay safe.

The Syrian army had about a 50% defection rate when Civil war broke out. 70% of the career soldiers are Alawites and many units have 80% of their officers as Alawites.

There is plenty of nutjobs on both sides, a country that has representation that is more balanced to it's population base is likely to be the more peaceful country.

Even if Assad wins, he will be responsible for killing thousands of non-IS Sunnis and inviting the Russians in to help kill his countrymen as well. This is just an IS recruiting machine.

If the Sunnis win, IS will cease to be attractive to the majority of Sunnis so will diminish and be easier to snuff out.

Syria and the Middle East is a problematic situation. Muslims that sense weakness will split along Shia/Sunni lines and armed conflict is inevitable.

There likely will not be stability in the region for a very long time. With or without IS, it is just becoming a proxy battlefield for Iran and Saudis to wrestle for the prime Caliphate.

Nice magic trick. And angels will come and sing a song to ressurect the deads. Assad is a butcher, but he is the legitimate butcher, period. Plus, I would feel far more safe with him fighting IS rather than rebels fuckwits, whose main hobby is to turn traitor as soon as they smell money or see a Russian plane.

>>
>>75804839

That is just an oversimplification to justify an uneducated position.

Are all Shias extremists? Are all Sunnis extremists?

Or is it any Sunni that doesn't want to follow Assad is an extremist?

There are Sunni extremists just like there are Shia extremists.

Just the reality of a not so clean war that isn't the good guys against the bad guys. It's just the majority of the population bad guys versus the minority of the population bad guys with the US, Turkey, Russia, Iran, extremists groups on both sides, Kurds and a few others thrown in.

You can cheer for what ever side you want but don't kid yourself that they are the "right" side.
>>
>>75805308
>>75805981

I don't think "Westerners" have a problem with that. It just seems the strong arm should at least be representative of the majority and not the minority.

Seems like it is the best of a worst situation for long term peace.

Assad and his history has a very low chance of getting through this and rebuilding a peaceful Syria.

It will just continue to be the proxy battleground.

But some are rooting for the ongoing battleground to let all of the extremists both Shia and Sunni kill each other.

More likely to just breed more extremists instead of a sum reduction in them.

He's changed a lot of his policies since the war.
You don't have to belong to the Ba'ath Party anymore in order to run - should you get enough votes to be a candidate.

I personally wouldn't really have changed that, but rather maybe cut off a tiny bit of land and give the FSA and their followers some autonomy and eventually try get them as far away as possible. People like that won't ever change - doesn't matter how much Assad gives in to their demands, they'll always want more and more until Syria fits their description.

That is an opinion.

Just like I am rooting for the side I feel will bring the most stability. I also identify the IS component as not being good for either side or the world for that manner.

I don't say Assad is an extremist or all Shias are extremists, I just say that he is a dictator of a minority faction that rules over the Sunni Majority.

My main point is that you can pick the side you think will be the "best" winner but that doesn't mean that they are the good guys and it doesn't mean the other side is a 100% pack of rabid extremists

>Or is it any Sunni that doesn't want to follow Assad is an extremist?
Most of the ones that are willing to fight are, and that's really all you need to know.

>It's just the majority of the population bad guys versus the minority of the population bad guys with the US
What do you mean with minority? Assads government? They are no minority, his government is neither only alawite/shia, nor is a majority of the syrian population fighting against this government.

The choice is simple, you are either for the government which provided decent living quality and religious freedom for decades or you side with one of the dozens of rebel groups. The problem here is that by now the majority of the rebel groups are either straight out (sunni) extremist scum, or dependent on groups like that. With assads government there is a chance for recovery for syria, without it syria will end up just like lybia, probably worse.

I think the Ba'ath Party is written into the constitution as being a mandatory 50% plus unless I missed something or the constitution was changed.

I like the separation or Balkanization angle but many will say it has been tried and doesn't work well.

As it stands now, it would likely work better than what is happening now and what will likely happen the future.

>Most of the ones that are willing to fight are, and that's really all you need to know.

That is just nonsense and you know it. IS is fighting the moderate Sunnis as much as they are fighting the Shias.

Syria is 73% Sunni, the government is not representative of this.

There's no right side in a Civil War, I know my country's story well. Took us like a century to settle things down from the Revolution to the end of the Second Empire.
Yet, as a European I simply cannot support rebels that shoots, fire with a mortar or whatever, yelling "Allah Huakbar". That's it. You don't fight yelling "God is Great" or "Long Live Jesus" every goddam 5 minutes without being nuts.
The only decent and moderate rebels are the SDF, but they are not fighting Assad (yet), and Russia has a let's say rather good contact with them, while they are being openly helped by the US. The rest are just djihadi scums. They can burn for all I care.

Which is a clusterfuck of rebel groups that ideologically range from "genocide all christians/alawites/yazidis" to "as long as they pay jizya they can life" to "we really want democracy and the right to practise whatever religion you want".

What the fuck do you think will happen should they win? The second their common enemy is gone they'll do what they've done for centuries, jump at each others throat. And what will remain then are the largest fractions, Jaish al Islam, Ahrar ar Sham, Al Nusra and friends. Take a guess on which side of the spectrum they are.

I don't think any sane person here is ever saying, genuinely that is, that Assad is a good guy - or that his regime is either.
He is the only one, at the moment, that can keep the country stable (all sects) - more so than any other faction/group.

Which country in the world do you consider as "good"?

No, it's not. The majority of the rebels territory is held by Jaish al Islam, Ahrar ar Sham and al Nusra, the rest is a clusterfuck of dozens of smaller fractions. The ones that don't share their ideology with those big three are in most cases dependent on them, which isn't really that much better at all.

>IS is fighting the moderate Sunnis as much as they are fighting the Shias.
Is is fighting those groups as much as some of these groups are fighting each other. They cooperated in some cases, fought each other in others.

>Syria is 73% Sunni, the government is not representative of this.
It doesn't need to be. What it needs to do is provide the chance of a stable society for (almost) all syrians, and that's what it has done for decades.

You may need to look on this link and see who rules syria:

Open and see what religion are the guys of Assad's cabinet, and you'll realize most of them are Sunni, there are some christians and alawites.

>With assads government there is a chance for recovery for syria
I doubt it. Assad lost all his legitimacy with large parts of the population. People here hype him because he's a funny maymay and is killing terrorists. But he can never hope to regain a real hold in most parts of Syria. He is also to weak to win outright against the rebels.
His best tactic was from the beginning: Push the narrative that the insurrection is a radical islamist one (which became a self fulfilling prophecy; Russia had a similar tactic in the second Chechen war) and fuel sectarian conflicts. This consolidated the support for the regime, since the minorities (expecially from the alawites, but also from the Druze and Christians) feared total genocide from the Sunni arab majority. This saved Assad, but winning is now impossible. Also, the Baath party, which was a bullwark for the lower class sunni arab - government relationship (actually an important pillar of the regime) lost all much of its importance when Bashir came into power. And the old pan-arab anti-zionist front-line state ideology crap (Assad said in an interview that because of this, the "arab spring" can't affect Syria)? Everyone knows by know that it's a joke.

the government still holds almost all major population centers, i think they still have a chance of recovery under assad. It's going to take a long time, but it could eventuall work. There is no alternative anyways, eventuall it works out at some point ot the country becomes a failed state.

He'll get tons of support from iran and russia too since they are interested in the formation of a shia controlled iran-iraq-syria axis.

Yeah, ony rational option for him would be to negociate with SDF after IS and Nosra/Djihadists are all wiped out from Western and Nothern Syria. Once this is done, cleansing the East would be a good way to try to see if both sides can work together for each others benefit.

Most of them are probably just tools, but it's not like its any different in most other arab countries. A real democracy in those societys won't work for decades/centuries to come, the peasants would just vote for something like the muslim brotherhood again and it'd become a shitshow in a matter of years.

Anyways, i'm off to sleep now

The whole conflict is the equivalent of the Thirty Years' War in Europe, just one big clusterfuck where every single faction has a reason to declare war even on their close allies just because it's for shit and giggles.
The only difference is we got much more powerful weapons today.

It's about religion, politics, city vs rural, just any reason you could make up.

They also suck, but it's the least fucked up faction involved in a pissing into a sea of piss contest.

indeed, he also holds the major population centers because he forced them to flee to the government controlled side. Mao said "a revolutionary has to move in the masses of the poeple like a fish in the ocean" (or something). Assad's counter insurgency strategy: Poison the ocean!
It worked when his father did it (Hama massacre, look it up). It didn't work today because Assad had to be more careful (danger of intervention) and also the spread of modern means of communication wich undermines the propaganda advantage of autoritarian states.
The rebels can't win and Assad can't beat them. How it will end? I don't know. Maybe some federal solution with demilitarized zones or something, with Russian mediation.

take a look at the picture of the post you replied to.

Assad can beat the rebels, but it's going to take its time. He'll probably have to deal with some of the more resilent groups for a few decades, but that's nothing a strong government couldn't manage.Taking aleppo and the areas around damascus and daraa back is all it takes and he'll have a neat front towards the east of the coutry, and there he only has to defend/stabilize some villages and make sure he controls the oil/gas fields. Let the rebels that remain stay in the desert and go full scorched earth every time they try to star shit.

Errr the point was to show that the government institutions have a lot of Sunni personnel. They guy was describing it as if the government was composed of only Alawites. I don't really know how much power they have. Also lets remember that when Hafez rose to power he had the backing of many sunni businessmen, its no like if sunnis are completely relegated from power in Syria.

well i don't know much about other middle-eastern folk music, i can recommend some turkish genres

ashik music is a large one. ashik were traveling folk bards/poets, it is mostly composed of a single man with a baglama/saz singing poems. one example would be;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kylN0EbXlLY

on islamic music we have sufi(mevlevi) music;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YJtH5qB3Og
which is boring unless you are watching some whirling dervishes live or some alevi music
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FCCbVJkt_0

but my favorite turkish music genre is late ottoman classical(which is not folk music). its a mix of eastern and western classical music. some examples from it;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9No8kVSXqQ

eastern front/isis is way easier opponent and will fall faster than the rebels in aleppo, idlib, damascus. these are the factions getting support from actual states. noone is willing to openly or even covertly support isis at the moment because it will bring them too much heat with the US, since actual us troops are fighting agaisnt them.
>>
>>75813231
now that was helpful, thanks. I will go to sleep and listen to sounds of the morning-land.
(also, late ottoman classical? I didn't even know that this exists. Pretty cool, I thought they were only beating drums while yelling and raping little greek boys bak then. Pretty cool)

arent afghanis and pakis the grunts that form the IRGC brigades in syria?
i remember reading that irgc officers are iranians whereas the soldiers are from afghanistan and pakistan that faced jail sentence for illegally entering iran or some other shit.
explains the incompetence and lack of gains plus the deaths of high ranking iranian officers.
also they are fighting in a place they dont know alongside troops theyve never fought with and with air and artillery support that are not iranian.

tl;dr they are shit
