Someone on my Facebook feed just posted this status unironically/100% serious about college. There's people legitimately taking what he said seriously in the comments while ignoring all the hilariously bad grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on college education /pol/?
>>
University attendance should be no more than about 10 percent of the population. Go back to the model we had in the 1920s and previously.

That applies for "muh stem", too. Learn engineering, computing and so on as an apprentice. Guess what, you aren't the next big inventor or Nobel Prize winner.

If you aren't learning a trade you are wasting your money.
>>
College is great if you take a non retarded major. I make 100k + bonus + stock right out of college with my CS degree.

College was beneficial when it wasn't an all inclusive muh quotas bullshit factory it is now. Save your money and learn a trade.

the more people that go, the less it matters.

College education is the best way to get a good starting job after university that is mentally stimulating and physically cushy. That said you need to pick a STEM or in demand field, get good grades and do internships while there. The long term prospects and job opportunities are better than not getting a college education.

Trades are great though, literally nothing wrong about them. The guy isn't really wrong about trades. Often college breeds a lazy mentality from entitled people who think being left to their own devices means they can get away with doing nothing.

I can't agree with this so long as people are able to achieve good results from a good degree course that leads to a job. I'm sure we can both agree that shitty courses are a huge let down of the university system but at the end of the day a better trained work force with more complete academic skills is going to be better for the economy long term. Put simply in my field which is Comp Sci, even semi-shitty coders are going to be useful in some capacity and the average layman is going to take a fair while to learn the same amount of knowledge as Mr. 2:2.

My situation is starting an internship in a major defence firm in less than a month with an okay salary before going back to uni in sept. STEM ain't a meme from my experience. You just have to work hard and do well instead of taking it for granted that you can sleep in each day.

i major'd in writing and i average 105 a year currently in sales.

your major doesnt matter. all that matters is a sheet of paper that says you finished college.

trades are great too but you wont be making 6 figures unless you start your own business. most trades average like 50k a year. nothing wrong with that of course but personally i would consider that 'setting the bar low'.

>what are your thoughts

It's mostly a waste of time, unless you are planning on a career in academia, or a profession that requires one such as engineering, law or medicine.

If you want to work in tech support, for example, they'll give anyone an interview, but unless you know how to, for example, create an active directory object and assign it to a group policy, they'll probably not want to take you on.

Anyone can work in the field at any time as long as you have the experience to do the job.

Mechanical engineer here. I fell for the the STEM meme. Have a job right out of college at $57K a year. I guess it was ok.

Maybe if he had gone to college he would be able to write coherently.

There are plenty of people in college that are dumb as bricks. And always will be.
>>
>>75776430
Literally anyone can do sales. It doesn't require any technical knowledge. Good luck being an engineer, doctor, or lawyer without the proper background.
>>
>>75775428
There are a lot of shitty college degrees and there are some good trades. I went the college route and it paid off. No debt and a relatively high paid job with total security, pension etc.

Look at the reply it got.

"Before this turns Viral , I want to thank you for trying to wake up society and motivate them"

KEK

>implying it'll go viral because of his wonderfully intelligent, inspiring anti-college message

Yeah... this will go viral alright. Not for the reason your dumbass thinks it will.
>>
>>75775428

1.) College is great if it's STEM (you can always minor or downgrade at the masters level for other things).

2.) STEM is great if you have actually been prepared by your high school.

If your high school is subpar (doing anything other than encouraging and enabling STEM) and you're taught grades are everything, then you are in fact screwed just like the nigger says you'll be.
>>
>>75776964

No shit, but that wasn't my point.

There are a lot of jobs out there that require a college degree. As in the organization will simply throw out your resume if you don't have your bachelor's. No, it's not necessarily fair--there are plenty of retards that finish school and there are plenty of really smart, motivated people who don't--but it's reality. My point is that having a sheet of paper that says you finished college is all you need in a lot of cases.

Put another way: underage faggots on /pol/ seem to put "your major" on a pedestal, as if anyone gives a fuck outside of medicine or law, which require advanced degrees anyway.

I had knew a friend of a friend who is an assistant professor. In her free time she gets commissioned to draw furry porn, doesn't report the revenue and gets benefits.

>in case you didn't know how much she makes, it's around 200+ used per commission.

She was passing around a petition to prevent the rnc because trump was sexist and so are his followers because a 15 yo old got sexually molested and assaulted and pepper sprayed blablabla Michelle fields bla bla bla.

I linked video evidence of both cases and proved they were frauds and she unfriended me and shit talked me to everyone within our mutual circle.

Didn't lose any friends, they all respected that I provided evidence. Told her to fuck off. She wrote a passive aggressive blog it.

This is why I have no hope for the current college generation.
>>
I work a trade, is boring.

Going to school for STEM
>>
>>75775428
without college we wouldnt have doctors/engeeiners the true heros of society.
>>
>>75776961
No kidding. Back when I was taking entry level courses there were affirmative action niggers who could hardly read and count.
>>
>>75775428
College isn't for everyone. Unless you're doing something like engineering (not STEM, the sciences are absolute memes).

Trades are ridiculously underrated. Most tradesmen make more money than most college graduates.

To be expected. Only crazies/retards would pursue "rigorous" academia in psuedo-sciences.

I'm college educated, and he is absolutely correct.
>>
>>75775428

Bad spelling aside, there is nothing wrong with learning a trade. This man clearly values hard work and business principles. You can build an empire from a business, all it takes is the right mindset.
>>
>>75777707
first off, why aren't you exposing her furry shit/ unreported revenue after she insulted the god emperor?

second, where is her blog I want to read it. badly
>>
>>75775428
Frankly he's got a point. Higher education isn't for everyone and a lot of people would be better off getting into the workforce early and just powering through to retirement.

College education is pretty much the minimum any self respectable Yuropean gets. Not only for the education or degree, but also for the experience. And even a Uni degree isn't enough these days...
