I would disagree, but anthropologically speaking I quite enjoy discussions of this nature. Considering the migrationary period when Homo Sapiens moved out of Africa and bred with Neandethals by the time Europeans had reached places like France, Spain and Britain they had already gained their own distinctive cultures from the other tribal groups that were looking for a place to settle.
The cultures in western Europe owe a large part of their cultural identity to the landscape around them. It's also part of why we fought so hard to keep them. These lands are some of the most fertile, most resourceful lands in the region after all, at least in relation to the technological level of the time.
Reminder that Britain used to be 80% forest. Same goes for France and Germany. Spain was much more important in terms of the raw minerals that could be extracted such as silver and gold.
