Anyone who ever has depression and friends will avoid contact with their friends because of their depression; but the cure for it, they often say, is communication; because while friends may not understand what someone's going through, the very fact that one life gives another life more meaning, eases their depression. It's quite eerie how depression can lead to suicide AND heart failure; biological initiatives, I assume, to rid the population of social dissidents, non-conformers, etc.
Doctors make billions of dollars telling patients that heart attacks cause depression, when I think it's safe to say that Cancer would probably be much worse, because it's the depression that causes the heart attacks. In many Asian countries, and what used to be most European countries, honor was important to live for, and dishonor was fatal and life threatening, that people would kill themselves. Mao Zedong, for example, killed more people than Hitler and Stalin, and eventually had a heart attack. Up until the French revolution, honor was a big part of every day life in Europe; if you were born a fisherman's son, you were a fisherman in honor, and if you were born royal you had royal honor.

I know it sounds far fetched. But how is it far fetched to believe that the reason people kill themselves, that they dishonor their family, is just another form of depression? We treat depression with millions of dollars, and we've yet to find out why the west is even more depressed and popping even more pills.
