Wasn't Luther a monk or friar at one point? I believe I read somewhere that he was and if that's the case didn't he take a vow of chastity, poverty and obedience? As someone raised a JW. I agree with many of the teachings and purging of pagan worship within Christianity.
But the actual community around Jehovah Witnesses is fucking toxic. Most of it is personal and anecdotal but I wouldn't advise anyone becoming full immersed in a specific kingdom hall. I always switch it up to not become a familiar face.
Lastly they don't do any scholarships and previously (before college became a huge meme) they discouraged people going to college. This was to stop to many people getting a huge dose of cultural Marxism. But you will also hear lots of stories from older people who ended up working in a shoe store or car rental for 40 years. Mostly older people who really got screwed into fully relying on getting into bethal or missionary work.

my dad was one and I went to kingdom halls when I was younger, but he also had another completely different family, and I had half brothers/ half sisters who wanted to get to know me/go with them to meetings
I now can safely say that JWs are a fucking cult and really really emotionally damaged. I'm so glad my mom left my dad and his crazy ass family.

The Church is good because it helps guide us through with doctrine, and it's just good to have Fellowship with other believers, and realize you aren't alone.

That is part of my conundrum. I'm hoping its not motivated through that. I don't believe it is, but its a worry of mine.
