The United States doesn't want an end to the conflict because of the same reason they don't want the Japanese to militarize. It gets rid of the reason for them to even have a strong presence in the Pacific.
If the Koreans unite, they aren't going to want American bases there. If the Japanese militarize, they won't want the Americans to have a presence in the South China Sea.
America's grand strategy is two-fold. First it was to kill off all old empires and establish dominance. The next step, which is now, is to keep any empires or unions of countries from forming that could challenge its dominance.
America doesn't give a fuck about "winning" wars. Our only concern is to keep other countries from coming together.
America wants the UK to pull away from the EU because down the line the EU could challenge the United States. The EU without the UK is pretty shit, and eventually Scotland will want to pull away from England.
America wants to be invested into NATO so Russia can't expand her sphere of influence. Pull more countries from Russia into a failing EU via NATO.
America wants to fuck around in the Middle East and keep anything resembling the Ottoman Empire from emerging. There was no plan to win, it's just to fuck shit up so much that people are divided and fighting against each other.

I have always been fond of a strong leadership, regardless of how it's attained and how it's kept.
A strong leader usually means a unified country. USA and Canada have not had that for a very long time and it causes dissent among then people.
I hope for a better future where only citizens can vote and only citizenship can be obtained through services to the country.
