If you're in a class dealing with imaginary numbers you should be able to do simple addition and subtraction already.
>>
>>75652857
Is that a remedial math class?
>>

This is how you spot braindeads.
They always ask questions like this.
>>
>MUH CHECK BOOKS
Guess how I can tell this was written by a liberal arts major?

It's rather sad, you know. Schools put a lot of effort into trying to get kids the information they need to discover potential career paths. But instead of learning how to advance themselves, liberals demand to maintain.

You don't know how to make money in the first place. What good does balancing a check book do you?
>>
>>75652857
This is an interesting meme.

Why do so much people hold the opinion that math as taught in school is useless? What does this faggot want to do in life? All janitor and burger flipper positions are already taken.
>>
>>75652857
Kill every cunt that bitches about it
>>
The same way people love Literature and ask why they're learning about imaginary numbers, people that love Math normally ask, why do I have to read this fucking retarded book?
Different strokes for different folks. Just because one side bitches about it more, doesn't always mean that there is something wrong with it.
>>

yeah, you start by not spending more money than you have, you stupid faggot
>>
>>75652857
>How do I balance check book

Step one, calculate monthly income
Step two, put like 20% of that shit in a roth or some kind of savings account or buy stocks as you see fit, make sure you've got like 6 months of living expensiveness in the bank ready to go
step three pay all your fucking bills
step four, do whatever the fuck you want with the rest or save it, invest or some shit, buy a rental property and become a land-jew

step 5 it's 2016 and the only time you write checks anymore is for weird random shit here and there

Step 5: Learn imaginary numbers so you can comprehend greater abstract reasoning and not be a fucking moron you little shit, that christian guy behind you looks like he gets a thousand more sluts than you and directly behind you, is the bull you are prepped for.

I really don't know how people are bad with money.
>>
>>75653467

I'm of the opinion that schooling should have more skills & career oriented methods. Like start with the foundational and day-to-day knowledge that most people will use regularly (your reading, writing, arithmetic). Then as the child develops specific interests you nudge them towards that with lesson plans catering to the specific interests relevant to the kid.

Balancing a checkbook is basically spend less than you take in. You don't even really need algebra to do it, its that easy.
But I will say unless you go into engineering knowing what an imaginary number is won't do much.
What we really need is jobs.

Credit cards give you greater protection against loss (by law you can't be liable for unauthorized use above $50, in practice no credit-card issuer makes you liable for anything. With a debit card anything that happens is on you) and carry cash-back and rewards programs that debit cards don't.

They literally pay you to use credit cards. All you have to do is have the discipline to not spend money you don't have, and pay it off in full every month.

what?
If you have AC currents everything is calculated through complex numbers.

>>
>>75659326
>Amps
>Volts

In alternating currents, the voltage and ampage aren't scalar. They alternate in amplitude and direction which means they can't be defined by linear, single dimension numbers. That's where I and J comes in. For instance, you can say that the ampage of an ac current is 2+4i.

For programming that deals more closely to the hardware is when it's used. For controllers too, mostly. It goes back to electronic usage and control the fluctuation, ampage, and voltage of systems and frequencies.

You could take it a step further a d say that quantum computing deals with it very closely when detecting the spin states of electrons.

Stop making it mandatory. And destroy free public schools. I am completely serious.

Forcing everyone to attend school until 17-18 is a waste and only hurts those who are really trying to learn. Public schools have to cater to their stupidest students, most of whom still leave the system unable to perform basic tasks. Thousands are wasted each year per student for no results.

If you want people to take things seriously, you make them pay for it. Parents being forced to directly pay for schooling will make them care more about their child's education. The dumb kids with no potential can just start working retail/fast food earlier.

Phases really comes into play if your running multiple generators or sources. If one is out of phase one generator will feed into another and your going to have a bad time. So if you end up at a power station or sub station its pretty important(how much I don't know, I am still an undergrad)

At other times for extremely basic practical use it doesn't come into play.

No.
School is about teaching a person how to think and reason.
It has little to do with facts, outside of how to use your brain to learn needed facts.

This "math is useless" meme is whats killing the west.

The reason math is taught is not because you need it specifically. But you need to learn how to learn something abstract. And math is pretty useful to learn because its abstract, but also concrete.
>>
>>75661267
I noticed my mistake after the post. The last 2 years of HS should be dedicated entirely to practical knowledge AND chosen subjects such as natural or social sciences.

That's better but I still think that's too early for asking students to start specializing in something. Even Bachelor's degrees are still meant to be mostly establishing a broad base of knowledge in the form of core classes so high school should be as well. Which is why you can go into medical school with a degree in music here in America.

A few electives and maybe a semester of practical living skills is fine but it shouldn't take away 2 years worth of basic knowledge.

Quality education means giving the person the ability to solve problems, facts just aid there process.
Rote memorization kills all the creativity in a person and gives them an lazy ass way to proceed in life without thinking for himself. You're missing the point, maths had infinite uses in daily life. For science-track University-level, the science introduction courses not require advanced math - and they can be taken alongside the Calculus required for more advanced physics, statistics, chemistry, etc.

Often, because of the influence of social media, people interact with news stories in the form of Facebook and Twitter posts before they even read an article. This is actually a very underrated solution. Young boys want to learn from men, young girls are better taught by women. It's natural to want to learn things from people who you idolize. And why would a young boy idolize an emotional woman?

In fact I believe the feminization of today's boys is due to women being overrepresented in public roles such as education.

Imaginary numbers is what, 9th grade? It's an essential topic in math and you really ought to fuck off. Balancing a check book is basic arithmetic. It's intuitive. It shouldn't need to be taught.

By posting that image you seem like you're in favor of dumbing down mathematic instruction; and believe me, that is the last thing we need in the US.

Our public education system has the following problems which may be solved more easily and to greater effect:

1) Blacks drag down test scores in virtually every school in the country. Segregate blacks from everyone else. This will be better for both groups. Segregation worked very well; and in the segregation era there were fewer incidents of blacks attacking whites in school (which is now almost ubiquitous).

2) Do not encourage every student to go to college. Divide children up between those who will go to trade school and college before high school.

3) Encourage literacy by removing all SJW-tier books from reading curricula. Only read great works of literature from the Western canon.

4) Latin will be taught from first grade onwards. In high school Greek may be studied instead of Latin.

5) Physics will be taught in 9th grade rather than 11th or 12th.

6) Pay teachers significantly more. Now a lot of the clever college graduates, who would otherwise have become doctors or lawyers or engineers, will become teachers.

You're welcome. I should be Secretary of Education.

At it's core most steady state AC circuits can be represented by linear ordinary differential equations with a complex forcing function (ie: inductance or capacitance). I like speaking it, but ultimately a useful language should be learned if it can be tied to the potential profession the student picks up.

Also you won't ever find a school promote trades or other non-college paths. Back in 2007 when I was a senior in high school some of my friends weren't too sure of what to do after graduation and I promoted picking a trade if they didn't feel capable for college.

In this economy, yes in fact.

I should explain myself a bit. I would never have thought this stuff a few years ago. But since then, I have nearly finished a dual major in math and econ. I have worked with finance types, bankers, actuarials, etc. The workings of investment and loans are a little to great to explain here, but the short of it is: finance types and bankers are the scum of the earth and almost mustache twirllingly evil, and the system which made money cheap and growth very high in the past is fucking over and done, and is on life support and will crash hard in some decades. They (the rich) of course want poor people holding the debt when that happens.

You know the 2008 financial crisis? We never actually solved it, or got out of it. We only sort of found a patchwork solution. The problems are now structural, and cannot be reconciled.

Yeah I know, my post was sort of tongue-in-cheek. Ideal reforms to the education system would never happen in the current social climate.

About Latin - it's more than just a dead language. Countless studies have shown the benefit of learning Latin vis-a-vis a better understanding of English grammar, better writing, and increased verbal intelligence. Not to mention, if you know Latin very well, you will have no trouble picking up French, Spanish, etc. When you know an inflected language, every uninflected language seems easy by comparison, to say nothing of the shared vocabulary in Romance languages.

Personally I think the greatest benefit is that Latin reconnects modern Westerners to their past. It would be so much better if kids were reading Cicero in the original language rather than, say, Maya Angelou.

because all your life will be practice, school is one of the few places where you have the opportunity to advance your understanding on how things work on the most abstract of levels
knowing the abstract concepts that lead to the practice you will take part in your job will allow you to grow much better long term as a professional

>Society isn't going to get any better

Yeah we're exactly the same as we were hundreds of years ago, average lifespan on 40 years old, no new great discoveries of science, still having to go around on horses, no system that protect us from the weather, no devices that allow literally anyone in the world to learn anything they could ever want to know in just a few clicks, no way to increase your social or economic status via hard work or skill.

Yep society is NEVER going to get any better.

I'd love to hear your explanation of how feminism completely negates the fact that compared to just a few centuries ago we're living in a practical utopia and I love how you take his side simply because he is a soldier and ignore any rational argument. Bravo you sure showed me.

>said Doctor believes the highest good is materialistic comfort for the highest number of people

The world we live in today not only gives teh greatest materialistic comfort, which is still highly important ask anyone with chronic pain, but allows people the opportunity to make a living while still having the freedom and time to practice what they love. You know, instead of working literally 24/7 on a farm and never having the time to enjoy hobbies or engage in higher level pleasures like mastery.

It depends what you do. I'm a design engineer and most of what I work on involves reading data sheets and LT Spice simulations.

My colleague is currently developing a power supply for a new device and he has to do a lot of phase/stability criterion that uses imaginary numbers.

How a liberal balances his/her checkbook:

1. Paycheck from Starbucks, $600
2. Bought a new dildo to shove up my ass, $45
3. Bought a tank of gas to drive my gf to her bull's house, $20
4. Bought a new pair of shoes to help run away from savage niggers downtown, $90
5. Gym membership due, I like to run on the treadmill for 20 minutes and pretend I workout, $50
6. Donated $500 to Bernie, #FEELTHEBERN!
7. Now I have $-105 leftover, FUCK WALLSTREET STUPID FUCKIGN WHITE MEN ARE MAKING ME POOR THIS IS WHY I NEED SOCIALISM!!!

I can assure you that a couple years ago when I was finishing up my Senior year I transferred to a school that was heavy into Common Core and I had to do something eerily similar to that. I can even remember the "make sure to include #trenchfoot!" part. Class was European History if anyone is interested.

I'm in Uni to become an engineer and we've been making insane fucking technological progress mate, to such a degree that it practically replaces biological evolution entirely. In like 50 years max, space travel will be so cheap and easy to do, you could colonize the moons of Mars as a private enterprise with maybe 1 million yearly revenue if everyone else wasn't doing it already.

And you cry because of niggers? Please. High tech, high life. The deeper we go into high tech engineering and science, the more we can divorce ourselves from, well, the human condition, in essence. Materialistic? Only in the sense that it gives raw material the ability to make machines for you that harvest more raw material. Look up "Lights-off factories" sometime.

Lol you write and think like a doctor. That's not a compliment, by the way.

I didn't say anything about feminism. You introduced that red herring. I noticed from your previous comments that you believe in a linear conception of history, speaking roughly, with time on the x-axis, technological advancement on the y axis, and the line y = x representing progress. Most people who haven't really read much history or philosopher think this way, so I don't blame you.

As to your points about freedom and such, I agree that Americanism (as it was maybe three decades ago) was superior to Soviet communism, in the sense that there was indeed more free time available to workers. But this is changing rapidly. You'll see what I mean when you're in med school and residency, m8.

I'm not sure why you think everyone was working on a farm a few hundred years ago, but this point doesn't really require an answer.

Man to man, I strongly advise you not to be such a little shit in personal interactions. Doctors are supposed to pretend to be decent people, you know.

I would say to focus more on humanities since the only mainstream classes they teach are Psychology and Sociology, but they would almost immediately be co-opted by some Common Core taught Libcuck that would tell you Socrates' teachings aren't valid because he was a privileged cis-white male. They would also tell you that ancient Greek and Rome were awful because of slavery yet their Hedonistic and pretty Liberal lifestyle is the closest thing in history to the social justice epidemic happening now.

A utopia?
>Mudskins invading civilized countries.
>Women getting away with everything because of the hole between their legs.
>Whites being blamed for everything and now are being bred out of existence.
This 'utopia' has bred the most pussified generation in the history of human kind.
You know where pussification gets us?
No where, that's where.
>you take his side simply because he is a soldier and ignore any rational argument.
How does my time in the army have anything to do with that? Some of the smartest people I have met served with me.
>You know, instead of working literally 24/7 on a farm and never having the time to enjoy hobbies or engage in higher level pleasures like mastery.
Oh, because that doesn't happen now with schooling?

So you simply restated what I claimed, insinuated that you know better but you didn't actually address any of the points I've stated nor make new ones of your own.

Please, go ahead and tell me what is correct then. And guess what, I freely choose medical school while knowing that the nature of the beast is that I won't have very much free time to myself. But this is better than before when literally all your time and energy was spent trying to make a living.

>I'm not sure why you think everyone was working on a farm a few hundred years ago, but this point doesn't really require an answer.

It's pretty obvious to anyone beyond a 4th grade reading level that I didn't state everyone was farming rather I grew up from a farming background so that is the kind of basic manual labor that people would have to devote all their time to do in order to just eat that I wanted to use as an example at the time.
