From automation, what gives something value is the amount of man hours into something, but streaming down the low skill factor production can be perfected. Also, classifying "the poor" as a static group of people shares the same fault as referring to "the top 1%" as the holders of the economic throne. Just as a very small minority actually stay in the bottom 1%, the top 1% is constantly changing.
This doesn't just apply to those extremes. As far as my country is concerned, more than a third of Americans end up in the top 10% in income distribution, if temporarily, and more than half of them will end up in poverty as some point in their lives.
Obviously, idiots tend to be poor and wealthy folk tend to be successful due to their own hard work and skills, but disregarding the fact that any individual can potentially climb or drop down the ladder is to ignore economic facts.
