Greenland is 4x bigger than Madagascar, the fuck is wrong with this map?
>>75534609
Greenland is actually the size of Mexico.
It's distorted on that map. When you try to flatted a globe, the top and bottom get stretched out and distorted. That's why Greenlanf appears to be gigantic, but actually is not. If you have a globe in your house, look at it and you'll see what I mean.

What IS map projection?
>>75534742
Sorry, no. There can be no other great powers in the New World. Monroe Doctrine and all that, I'm sure you understand. The Tsar was already knew that we were going to go to war over it eventually and was so terrified that he sold it to us out of sheer terror. Sorry Ivan, but you lost it.

Projection involves ... projecting vectors onto another. In the case of maps, it is the projection of a 3D objection onto a 2D surface. Look at the map and notice how Antarctica is drawn. It take up the entire bottom. The bottom is actually the south pole, but that single point has the be stretched to fill the entire map. Things further away from the equator get stretched, because the sphere being sampled has less cross-sectional area to sample from.
Or think of it like this: cut a inflated rubber ball in half. Stretch the edges so that it is a sheet. The edges stretched more than the center. If it were a globe you were doing this too, things farther away from the epicircle you cut through would not be as stretched.

God, I hate the left wing propaganda of the west wing. It's so blatant its infuriating. I'd be fine with changing the map, if it was on grounds of accuracy but they just want to control people's thoughts.
>alaska alone is at least 2 times bigger than any country in europe

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South-up_map_orientation
>Cultural diversity and media literacy educators use south-up oriented world maps to help students viscerally experience the frequently disorienting effect of seeing something familiar from a different perspective. Having students consider the privileged position given to the Northern hemisphere (especially Europe and North America) on most world maps can help students confront their more general potential for culturally biased perceptions.

Why do americucks feel the need to split the map in half? I suppose its just so they can feel relevant.

That, and it's probably intended for the trade routes and winds, most of which occur in the Pacific and Atlantic.
