How can you be authoritarian, when the most free countries in the world (pic related) have the highest standards of living?

Funland is actually very free, you can seriously become anything you want, if you just commit to it.

Does this include the bullshit negative liberty in the personal freedom section? I mean you might be free from poverty and so on in Finland but you sure as hell aren't allowed to act as you please.

none of them are socialist. some may have "social democracy", but they are still economically more free than, say, the united states

>>75535365
i concede that the EU limits freedom, but even with its influence, the countries are more free than most of the world

no

so? the standard of living was high in these countries in 2012, just as it is now

>>75535897

speculation, and irrelevant in any case, since it is the present i am talking about

The chart is bullshit though, no EU country belongs on there. EU countries, by definition, do not have free speech, as they have to comply with EU "hate speech" laws. America does not have these laws, yet it's arbitrarily left off the chart.
This is because "human freedom index" is derived through a convoluted methodology that exists purely to make European social democracy look good, and true personal freedom look like tyranny. It's propaganda, pure and simple, and all you need to do to discredit it is ask "What freedoms does the US lack that the UK does not?"
>>
>>75537074
America is not on the chart because of a great lack of economic freedom, along with "anti-terrorism" measures like mass surveillance. The lack of freedom created by hate speech laws pales in comparison.
>>
>>75533443

This is bigger nanny state than UK. Something tells about this nation and its people whenever this new government gives more freedom(less alcohol regulations, grocery store opening hours freedoms) and people start complaining because they can't handle so much freedom. The older generation is raised by social democrats they want everything to be controlled by the government.
>>
>>75538525
i didn't say it's not real socialism, i said it's not socialism. socialism means the government controls the means of production, which is not the case in any of these countries

examples of actually socialist countries would be cuba and vietnam
>>
>>75538613
Oh and all the business moving to Estonia because it's stupid to even try start anything here, as you get punished for creating something. Monopolies everywhere starting from alcohol. If you run business you might as well say you don't really own it because the union mafia makes all the decisions for you.

>The index captures the degree to which people are free to enjoy the major freedoms often referred to as civil liberties—freedom of speech, religion, and association and assembly —in the countries in the survey. In addition, it includes indicators on rule of law, crime and violence, freedom of movement, and legal discrimination against same-sex relationships. We also include five variables pertaining to women’s freedom that are found in various categories of the index.

What kind of freedom of speech this country has when this became such a huge issue and it was investigated by KRP? Sure, you're free to criticize the government. But no country that has "hate speech" laws is free.
>>
>>75538789
>NSA collecting my phone records
oh i think you know they collect a lot more than that. you've also got other "anti-terrorism" measures like waterboarding.

>going to jail for saying doubleplusungood things to people on the internet
never happened in finland, haven't heard of it happening in any of the other countries on the list
>>

> i said it's not socialism. socialism means the government controls the means of production

No, there is several kind of socialism, and this one is historicaly the most irrelevant.
Socialism is more: governement for the reduction of inequality, social equality, progress etc etc.
That's basic utopian bullshit but rarely communism-tiers
