Bernie failed for the same reason all social democrats fail - they are always too afraid of appearing "extreme". If Trump showed us anything, it is that people actually show up to vote for extreme candidates. I think we can look at the success of Trump and see why Bernie failed.
Here's what he should have done.
1. Seized on the email scandal instead of defending Hilary for her criminal activity. "No one cares about the damn emails?" I care a fucking lot about Hilary being a criminal, actually, and so did his base.
2. Never shied away from saying controversial or politically incorrect things. I'm talking directly quoting Stalin and Mao, calling for the imprisonment of tax dodgers and criminal banksters and lobbyists, promising to imprison certain previous politicians for war crimes, and supporting protesters when they get rough with riot police.
3. He should have sided with BLM from the beginning and brought them into his campaign, instead of waiting for them to STORM ONE OF HIS EVENTS. That was a disaster, and his support from Black voters has never been goon because of it.
4. He lost Iowa because of a coin flip, Bill Clinton violated polling laws, he was locked out of DNC servers, Nevada was stolen - so many cases of rigging and fraud weakened his campaign. He should have jumped on every single one, and threatened to run independent if they don't respect the democratic process.
5. He should have never pledged to support Hilary if she won. By doing so, Hilary was able to weaken support for him - after all, if he's just going to lose and support her anyway, why show up to vote at all?

Trump says dumb shit, but he's not scripted at all. And he isn't completely out of touch with the working man like most candidates, he still regularly works at the ground level with contractors. I just don't like career politicians, they think that because they keep getting re-elected that they support what the people want, when the reality is that no one knows or cares enough about them or their competition to shake up the status quo. I'm voting for Trump because I think that hard work should be rewarded, but also because I hope that electing him will send shockwaves through the political community and signal an actual change back to a point in time where people actually care about each and every person their voting into office.
