If a friend? I'd lose contact with that friend over a relatively short period of time, simply from no longer feeling any reason to hit him up for beer or similar.
If he tried to hook on to me it'd get awkward as shit and eventually we'd both lose interest in one another.
I would not realise that this was due to the person being insane, but I think this would happen.
