Interestingly enough Israel literally air-dropped supplies to Rhodesian forces operating in Zambian territory from bases in South Africa. It was all done very hush-hush because Rhodesia didn't want to piss off the British by violating Zambian airspace some more. It's a reason Mugabe hates the Kikes so much.

Geopolitically, Rhodesia and South Africa were hugely important allies of NATO and Israel. But NATO couldn't openly support them out of fear of being racist. Israel, on the other hand, didn't really care and went ahead with supporting their allies.
They were safe spaces for Jewry and that share had to be self preserved. They also gave support during Serbia probably because they have more free weapons than they know what to do with.
