Well mosquitoes serve zero purpose. They're not a primary food source for any animal or plant, they don't pollinate anything, they don't produce anything, they're not vital to any sort of ecosystem.
Rats and roaches are food sources for other things. They can be used for research.

Mosquitoes aren't very big and there aren't much to be gained from them compared to something like protein which you'd find in locusts for example.
Sure there's lots of things that eat mosquitoes but nothing that requires them in order to survive.
