A lot of top ranking Soviets were. The Russian Empire didn't allow Jews to settle in Russia beyond Western Ukraine but it changed with the commie revolution.

No, it's not a meme. The Jewish population of Russia was approximately 1% but if you look at the original bolshevik Party Congresses, the leaders of the bolshevik side in the Russian Civil War, etc., you'll see that anywhere from 50% to 80% of the important people were jews. Many of those who were not jews were half-jewish, or married to jews, or had children married to jews -- which is relevant since the core of the phenomenon of jewish dominance is jewish ethnic networking, doing corrupt favors for members of "the tribe" in full knowledge they will be repaid by other members. --- So for example, the NKVD (the predecessor to the NKVD, in charge of the Red Terror) had 18 station heads and 15 of them were jewish. The chances of randomly picking 18 Russians in 1930 and getting 15 jews were spectacularly tiny; but of course it was random, the Bolsheviks were a jewish party.
The same could be said of the communist parties in most other Western countries. For example, when the Spartacists in Germany began a communist revolt, 5 of the 5 leaders were jewish; at the time 0.5% of the German population was jewish.

I think that's a consequence of all the Allied propaganda that was aimed against the Germans and that the Soviets "liberated" big parts of Europe. This made it easier for Western intellectuals to support t the Soviet Union.
The USA would never go at war against the Soviet Union like they did with Germany, so the same amount of propaganda to make US farmer boys go and die at foreign beaches wasn't necessary.
