What if giving women the vote was a mistake?
It's wrong to say capitalism evolves into socialism, unless you saw that the only successful countries that survive were those that practiced socialism, then making the remaining capitalist countries collapse or decide to change as they saw how successful socialism is. But it's really the opposite that happens.
Besides, socialism completely rejects the principle of evolution through competition and replaces it with a different thing, sometimes described as "evolution" but really historical materialism or progressivism.
Socialism's whole point is that a single entity or council of people can take the development of a society in hand and guide it according to some scientific and sociological theory as opposed to the process of development through competition which functions exactly like the natural process of evolution. Socialism is the absolute opposite of evolution.
