Why couldn't I have learned a useful second language, like Spanish or Russian? I love Poland and being a Pole but the Polish language has absolutely no use outside of Poland itself. You don't know the pain of seeing an interviewer's eyes light up when you tell them you're bilingual, and then seeing them become crestfallen when they learn your second language is effectively useless. My one asset--wasted!
Please tell me Poland will become a superpower soon so that people like me will be in high demand.

I speak it everyday with my family.
There's no movie or work of art or anything that I can think of that would benefit from me viewing it in its original language over a translation.
There's no big demand for Polish English translators. People in Poland are taught English now, anyway.

Thing is, I never actually studied it so I have no idea how to read or spell anything.

My native language is russian. When I was in Ukraine and in Israel, I had no problems communicating with the local people - almost everyone can speak in Russian.
Languages Eastern European citizens are very similar, so, for example, Serbian or Czech will understand if you speak in Russian.
