seeing friends and collegues being slaughtered like animals takes toll on everyone. you'll naturally grow to hate your enemies if you're at the frontline, so calling him a "hate-filled killer" is not really a genuine depiction.
if he really saved the lives of many soldiers by being a top-tier long-range shooter he's a hero in my book, although I disapprove of him bragging about what he did. being the best at what you do is something to be proud of, but claiming things you (allegedly) did not is just sad high-school behaviour
