This is such propaganda.
In Germany they have kids take a test like the SATs. If you're smart AND you express interest in an actual college-based profession (i.e. doctor, lawyer), then they pay for college. Everyone else get some job training and kicked out of academia forever for being stupid.
(Then wide-open American universities will accept them, and foreigners will return with American educations).
Source: My friend at UConn in STEM just got accepted to study at University of Heidelberg for the summer.
They don't send EVERYONE to college over there. That's how they can afford it. Just like how they don't give EVERYONE health care. If Jimmy has a rare disease that effects about 5 people globally, and only $1,000,000 experimental treatments are available and they could save 10 people with cancer - they let Jimmy die. Which is the Utilitarian thing to do when you have social control of the money. Which is why having social control of the money is a shit idea. Because in a free market Jimmy and those 10 people could live so long as they/their families were financially responsible and I'd pay for none of it. Fucking god.

>most of the countries do not.
yhou're not a special snowflake, that shit is everywhere
the problem is the education system before the point where you choose what you 'want' to do.
if it was better, there would be less college drop outs, less shitty diplomas, manual jobs would not get frowned upon and looked at like they're some kind of less important job than say IT.
everything is fucked, people are pushed to sciences, even the ones who arent good at it and will never make a living out of it.
The ones who are still too stupid to study basic maths or physics go into retarded philosophy / writing / history / art classes where, again, very few people will actually be able to get a worthy diploma and make a living out of it.
every country has different education system, none is perfect, what is sure is that they all suck and the major cause of unemployment.
young people dont know what to do, dont know how to value themselves and their skills, end up depressed, work shitty jobs, unless you're one of the very few well rounded enough, well surrounded to go through all this and actually find a job that is rewarding in many ways.
its only getting worse every year, everywhere

Chile:10% (sales tax is 20%)
Brazil:31%
Germany:41%
Finland:21% (24% normal sales, 14% (food and fodder),
10% whatever else)
Norway:
France:30%. 20% sales tax.
czech republic:45%
Sweden:32%
and finally
US:15 to 20 percent depending on where you live.
sales tax is generally less than 10% and in some states nonexistent.

"Free college" it's about 100 000kr + for each year after grade 13. Med students pay about 150-200k per year. If you want to be a plumber or carpenter, your college is free. The high paying professions cost alot each year.
Thats just a blatant lie.
There ARE free colleges here, yes, but you need to take some pretty tests to get in (compared to high school tests, obviously). The free ones are the best but:
>you only get in if you had the money to pay a private and good high school (public education is a joke)
>in a shit state, people only care about communism and weed
It enrages me how only americans don't see they live in the best country in the world and keep looking for ways to make it shit
Don't you get a free/very cheap tuition in any state university in the world?
Poor people in state unis here pay like 200-300 USD per semester.
The most expensive uni here costs around 4500 USD per semester, but if you aren't an idiot you can get 95% fee reduction.

Payroll tax is tricky, we have a 9.9% payroll tax for Canada Pension Plan but most people don't consider it a tax. CPPIB has posted a 6.8% average annual return over the past ten years which is more than double my private RRSP so yeah it's almost the opposite of a tax. A subsidized and in most cases fully redeemable tax.

however, how do you make them busy ?
because thats what school until you're like 15 is about.
the modern family has both parents working.
So they would have to employ someone to look after their kids. But what would they do then ? educated at home by said employee ?
that doesnt look so good.
no, the real answer is to change the bullshit you're talking about, and teach useful stuff to everyone.
some people will never make any use of the math they learn in highschool.
they could use some teaching about cooking, wood working, etc etc
I'm not saying it has to be completely changed, but there has to be a better balance than today where indeed, most of the teachings are useless stuff that anyone could read about if they're really interested in it

You've probably never been to Europe, I live in USA, those of us who arent rich or ignorant would prefer socialism or full blown communism, so we didnt have to think about how many people die to keep us at the top of the colonialist pyramid. If you don't see why the poor shouldnt be expected to, and indeed shouldnt be trusted to look after their own health you're shortsighted. If you cant understand subsidizing education it's probably because you deserve a life of wage slavery and the only skill you can imagine successfully using, is threatening the rest of the world with murder.

also dont forget that when you talk about 'education' to teachers nowadays you're only making new enemies.

my disagreement is about the things you learn that are mostly useless until you specialize in it later
