I work as a basic office worker but in a multi-national company so my native level English is what basically got me the job. Sorry I can't go into details but I basically type emails, do some other office tasks, things like that.
As for where I migrated, I migrated to the US with my parents.
As for Warszawa Centralna, yeah, I don't go to that place much but I avoid buying a ticket at the station for that very reason. I am lucky enough that I have a ticket machine right outside my house with no bums and I can pay with my debit card for a 90 day ticket.

I'm a Brit living in Lodz. It has a bad reputation as it is an old industrial factory city, but there has been a lot of restoration and development in recent years and is now much better than most Poles realise.
It has a lot of charm and there's definitely enough here to keep you interested for a few days. I've had a few different friends visit me here and they've all loved it. The main street (basically 95% of all city activity occurs on it) is great in summer, the atmosphere is pretty special.
I won't lie though, there's probably at least five other Polish cities worth seeing above Lodz though.

Had to go to Gdansk a couple of years ago for a business trip. It was summer so the weather was nice. Took the train up to Sopot to kill an evening. People were nice. It was clean and modern where I was.

When you're at the market, DO NOT molest the food. What I mean is that without preservatives, the produce bruises. I learned it's just better market etiquette to not touch anything you don't plan to purchase.

Look out for yourself after dark, even in main cities you might get your as kicked by "skinheads" (dresy) if you're foreign. Just because.
Buy food from markets, buy fresh bread (and fucking pastries, just visit a bakery), buy local meat products. You'll be amazed.
If you dare you can drive... be mindful that Poles are horrible drivers. Imagine NYC or Chicago driving with double the cars on lanes that are half the lane width. Also get a GPS because signage is pants on fire retarded if you're not from there. Gas is expensive.
If you take a train (which I would recommend) I suggest using EIP trains where available, little bit pricier but the standard of travel is very good even in 2nd class. Otherwise stick with IC, EC, EIC trains on long hauls. With current exchange rates train travel will be extremely affordable.
Do not expect locals to speak conversational English other than certain young people. With police officers, clerks expect no English, with travel office employees expect basic English. (This pertains more to cities other than Warsaw and Krakow where it is very likely to find conversational English speakers and plenty of foreigners)

I hated it. I moved out to the US for a year as an exchange student and then came back. I had reverse culture shock.
You hate how illogical and broken everything is, the government (on every level), way of doing business, employee/employer relationships, wages.
Things are over complicated for no reason. An errand that takes me 15 minutes in the US can take days in Poland. Basic stuff, getting your license, documents, doctors appointments.
Life in the US is easy and I like it. I do my job, I like my job and life is on cruise control. I don't have to worry about fighting with something all the time.
I don't want to say that for example the government in the US is great. Fuck no it's not but... by comparison... yea it's good.

But don't worry if you're in debt the banks can get your accounts frozen in a matter of days. Banks go to court, sue you giving them any address (likely not yours), the summon is mailed there registered but since you aren't there to sign for it THEY CONSIDER IT DELIVERED AFTER 3 TRIES. Do you understand? They consider you served even if you never saw a summon and the bank (often) intentionally put a wrong address. Since you are "served" and you don't show up they judge against you in absentia and you find out that some bank sued you when your card gets denied and you check your account. Then it takes months to unscrew this. My moms business went through this shit.
