Situational awareness is the first and most important element of self-defense. Situational awareness requires not just honesty, but rationality. At the point skin color comes into a threat evaluation, logically, you have already identified a group of potential threats on entirely different grounds. Placement, movement, body language etc.
At that point, noticing that they all have the same skin color and it's different from yours may add a tiny bit of data to the analysis but it's extremely unlikely to actually be important, and certainly far less so than the prior clues.
And the only reason it matters at all is because these bodies have already been tagged as threats - ie probably subhumans, who react based on instinct rather than reason.
