Japan in the under 30s is essentially like Europe in attitudes to race etc apart from a much greater sheltering from nonJaps so you get more funny questions or statements. Older people are going to be polite to you no matter what because culture.
Age is a big factoe there and i was 29 when i went but was wearing a suit and looked probably in my 30s so in terms of respect that is important. Not standing out in appearance and carrying yourseld well goes a long way in Japan.
As far as being accepted Japan is too homogenous to accept whites as Japanese by assumption. However there is a massively dissporotionate amount of nonJaps on TV sorta minor celebs etc. And there is a decently notable and growing mixed population. Therefore despite speaking Japanese and acting Japanese you will be excused from fucking up and will be held to different standards.
In terms of racism Japanese only places dont really exist in Japan especially in the current year. I was never made to feel unwelcome. But yes if you dont speak Japanese please dont go into a non-English full Jap menu with traditional settings and cause everyone involved to have a terrible time. If you speak Japanese then they will initially nervous but gracious after.
SKorea is the same except they hate blacks more and might make rude comments about you if your white. Much more racially conservative

Woman have different roles in society especilly what is expected in the workplace. However i would say this is changing and were i worked had career driven woman like in the west. My buddy is a vendor for an auto manufacturer - everything from OEM to aftermarket. One of his most popular selling brands is exhaust - very deep sounding and throaty, not that ricey Civic shit you hear down the block. He carries a few brands - mostly american. He use to carry chinese. The american ones have the highest satisfaction but it's pricey (starting at $1500 for just the catback) and he sells he sells it a very competitive price so he needs to move a bunch to make a profit.
Not too long ago he started carrying the chinese knockoffs to sell how well they would do. To make a long story short, the chinese ones retail for $300-400 SHIPPED vs the high end brand for $1500. Of course he tells me this attracts a lot more customers but as soon as he started selling it, consumers reported major problems 2-3 months down the road - the welds literally failed. He stopped carrying them within a few weeks and refunded everyone their money. Now he sits on forums bashing their name because he lost money on it. Cheap shit, will fail undoubtedly, doesn't even meet stainless steel requirements but is sold as it. Hell actual material used to make stainless steel isn't even that cheap ($300-400) and they threw in labor + shipping for free. I wonder why it's failing.

My pops lived there for a while in the 70's and loved it, plus I hear theses a huge expat population. They seem to dislike mainland Chinese, so I'm wondering if they're less suit to deal with.
