Fast forward 2000 years and you'll realize that we aren't really all that different than we were back then.

As I read it, the book of Job is all about how God's ways are unknowable, and about how a man under extreme distress can bust out a sickass epic poem/rant against his creator.
Job's friends try to convince Job that he just needs to ask for more forgiveness for the sins he obviously committed, while Job tells them to shut the fuck up and continues pleading for an audience with God, since he believes and knows that he did no wrong. God answers Job's prayers by granting him this audience, but rather than converse and debate with his subject, God just yells at him and confirms that he can do whatever he wants because he's God, before giving Job his prosperity back tenfold.
The main point to Job's lengthy petition was to say that he, a mere man, has no way of knowing God's design or fighting back against his will. Job's friends were divinely chastised for judging incorrectly, saying that if a man is righteous then he will surely see prosperity. They assumed that because Job was being punished that he must therefore be a sinner. Job was the one who judged correctly, saying that God treats the righteous and wicked alike, destroys the rich along with the poor, and treats all men as dirt beneath his feet.
I can't stand Christianity, and it wasn't until I learned of all the different denomonations that I realized how absurd and oppressive it is.

The Boy Scouts are an explicitly spirituality based organization. Complaining that they don't let atheists in is like complaining the an white guy isn't allowed to join Zeta Phi Beta. While homosexuals can be reconciled to religious organizations just like alcoholics could (i.e as members in need of support to overcome their sinful desires), atheists cannot because you don't satisfy the basic precept of having a religion in order to be part of the group.
