They're usually the children of successful individuals and are able to afford to just sit around all day and play music. They are able to afford high quality music and vocal lessons. Lastly, because they have no real world experience, their ideals come wholly from the media, which is mainly left-wing, thus they are liberals.
You still have centrist or conservative musicians out there, but they are usually ones who struggled for years, have a certain grit to them for having to work real jobs while they played. Their exposure to the real world and strong work ethic usually lends them a more conservative political ideology.
Last thing I want to say, because the media is structurally liberal, if we're talking about fame or records sold as the measure of success (not volume of fans), then obviously the more liberal musicians are going to become more successful, as they are going to gain more radio exposure and tv promotion due to their ability to serve as a liberal beacon to continue the cycle.
