Honestly the Empire isnt so bad. Sure they are kind of rough when they take shit over, but once they rule you with no opposition things are pretty nice.

The empire is basically America if you think about it. They are essentially the super power of the galaxy that rules simply by having the most powerful weapons, peace through power.
There's a small sect of religious extremists that have a fantasy of bringing "balance" to the force. Their idea of balance is to exterminate anyone that doesn't bow to their exact beliefs of the force.
So they hate the power structure bringing order to the galaxy, and what do they do? They bomb the death star, killing millions of innocent workers. Honestly, think about all of the cooks, retail employees, every walk of life on the death star. Sure the death star is there for "evil" but essentially it's just there to let the galaxy know that they will accept nobody causing problems. But without thinking, the rebels led by an extremist religious type, killed them all in one swipe.
They're fucking terrorists, and they're under the guise of a "peaceful" religion. Yeah fucking right

What bothers me the most is that episode 7 proofs that Sheev and Vader were right. The empire was needed, the republic was a failure and the rebels couldn't maintain the order of the galaxy. Some opposition 20 years after changing a 1000 years system was logical but it was going to end, pretty soon if Luke joined his dad to hunt the jedi scum. Nevertheless, Luke's lack of vision left the galaxy on the exact same situation of episode 4, I mean the exact same situation because fuck new things, they're scary and non-SW.

Books are published fanfics but movies have the old actors and the media hype so there's something heartbreaking to know your childhood heroes were wrong and all their struggle was useless.
