I have a Muslim Co worker and he's extremely anti gun.
He keeps saying that people shouldn't own guns and that any revolution would be stopped by the military easily.

Is he saying this because he wants Americans to be defenseless against Islam or is he just a dumb liberal?

I'm curious to know where you found this statistic. I suspect it is from the CAIR survey, which was an unscientific survey performed by a questionable source. A scientific survey performed by Zogby gives a 57.5% Muslim vote for Bush. I would guess Bush performed especially strong with Saudis, but I can't find more specific data.
Bush receiving a favorable response from Muslims over Gore in 2000 would be an exception based on those two specific politicians, not the rule.

Looking for statistics, I found something even more telling. A survey was performed just after 9/11, but before the war machine started or Republicans were associated with opposing Islam, which showed Muslims identified 23% Republican, 40% Democrat, and 28% independent. That hardly qualified as 80% Republican voters.

That article quotes the same non-scientific CAIR survey. Everything else is anecdotal. I've found more on Muslim voting patterns, but they only go back as far as 1992. The exact numbers I find according to MAPS/Zogby for 2000 are as follows.
Bush: 48%
Gore: 36%
Nader: 16%
That's not 80%. Or 76%. Or 70%. Moreover, more identified as Democrat than Republican. This affiliation may have something to do with Clinton, who is widely reported to have carried the Muslim vote in 1996, although I cannot find specific statistics. The following article reports Bush Sr winning Muslims 2-1 in 1992, likely aided by the Gulf War, and Clinton winning Muslims 2-1 in 1996.
