There's nothing occult about him. It's just back then you didn't have the internet and no one was really familiar with these old symbols unless reading Germanic mythology was a hobby.

Himmler was born catholic, but he became fanatical about a number of things, especially his conviction that Jews had corrupted nearly all Western culture. He believed that Europeans already had a relationship with the One True God prior to being forced to accept a "Jewish God" by the Roman administrators of Europe during the Flavian dynasty. The name his ancestors used for that God was 'Waralda' (basicaly a German version of Odinism). He felt absolutely no doubts that this was the God of Christianity, and he believed that a Christ figure had lived and was the son of god, etc. He was aware of Mythraism, Horus, etc, and that the "Christ" character repeats throughout history. He believed that there was an entire truth of God being obscured by degenerate Christianity, and he spent massive sums of money on archeological inquiry into the matter, to "rediscover" original German "theism".
Wotanism is similar to the spirituality that Himmler practiced.
