If the EU actually had a unified military, unified foreign policy, unified fiscal policy, fully integrated economy, etc. it would easily be the most powerful nation on Earth, but you can't put your old differences aside and remain weak and divided.
As Europe fractures even more, larger outside powers like US, China, India, Russia and others will easily be able to play European countries against eachother to our advantage in ways that may benefit individual European countries at least temporarily while hurting Europe as a whole.
