But part of that deal was we agreed to replace the south's millitary materiel on a go forward basis so they could continue to keep the north at bay.
The democrats refused to do this. President Ford even went to congress to literally beg them to fund it and they walked out.
We had won the war democrats just lost it for us and the south Vietnamese to score political points.

Despite the memes, America really isn't that great at warfare. What catapulted America to Superpower status was their manufacturing capacity.
Though I will admit that the first 12 months of the Pacific Campaign in WW2 proved the worth of America's Navy when they were more or less on equal footing with the Japs.

Not just manufacturing capacity, but logistics. It's one thing to build thousands of tanks, it's another thing to ship them half way around the world, then give them enough fuel and ammunition to defeat the enemy.
Logistics is the one aspect of warfare that the US us unquestionably the nest at. Its also the most important.
