No, if I'm travelling within 500 miles I'm going to take my own car so I have something to drive when I get there. Beyond that I'm taking a plane because I enjoy flying and its faster/cheaper. Trains are for cargo transport. i can't wait for some endangered tortoise to get run over by these and environmentalists shut it down.
Given the times we are living in, mass-transit such as a high speed rail would be obvious targets for terrorists. But hey, good thing California is passing new gun legislation!

Spain invested like half of the money for twice the length, around 34 billon Euros to get 2500km of high speed rails between 1992 and 2012 (the 2nd longest HSR network in the world, currently exceeds 3000km).
