Can we get a classical western art thread going?
It's always nice to have a break from all the degeneracy with good classical art
The best art is degenerate though.
dumpan
>Break away from the degeneracy
>With classical art
Are you fucking retarded? Most of the models for these paintings were 12 or 13 year old girls.
>>74633870
Come on man I could be dumping degenerate art too but save it for a thread dedicated to it.

I've never understood the story of Isaac.
God seemed to pull a lot of stupid shit to try and prove loyalty. But at least its not as awful as what God did to poor Job.
I like me some odd nerdrum too

>God seemed to pull a lot of stupid shit to try and prove loyalty.
Pretty much. After reading the Bible I was struck with how much God resembled someone I knew. He would give you anything you wanted if you were an acquaintance. However if you were a close friend of his he would test your loyalty with bullshit.

Lets be honest. Photography killed this kind of art.
>>74635697
we have really similar taste in art. I have this same thing saved.
>>74635773
That's not entirely true. We do talk a lot about degenerate art 'n shit but there are still really talented artists out there today making some really great shit. Its just they don't get the recognition. Or they're doing things for games or films.
>>74635773
not really
everything tech advancement murdered the previous artistically but not for the better
>>74635773
literally modern art killed this kind of art. but even then, that's a pretty naive claim.

Prominent art reflects the predominant philosophy. Unfortunately for us that philosophy is postmodernism and postmodernist art looks like pic related. Maybe its a little reductive, but if your philosophy inspires shitty art then maybe the philosophy is shitty.
>tfw you fall in love with a painting
Ok is it just me or do modern humans look nothing like the people in these paintings . Is it poor diet and shit lifestyles or what? I want to look like the dudes in these paintings

I don't think so Tim
Pic related was bought in a tavern for half a crown, which today would be worth $25, by a duke from her shitty husband.
>>74636027
classical art in influenced heavily by greecian sculpture, religion and is therefore romanticizing or idealizing the human form. If you look at the helmets (real artifacts) from ancient times, you'll notice they are quite small, and even the dresses and other fashion from 150 years ago wouldn't fit the average person now. so yes diet has had an effect on people but whether or not that is the only reason we look different now, I think is subject to debate.
>>74636241
very nice.
im related to this artist
>>74636417
Interesting. Ideal is definitely the right word... certainly something to strive for at any rate, I know we can do better than what we have now (in terms of how most people look these days), but I digress.

I love these sorts of paintings. I lose myself in them. It's like I'm lost in some other era and I want to travel back in time to visit these places. I just know that colours and themes like these mesmerise me

>>74633245
What? No, art, as one of the most important parts of a culture is the absolute opposite of degeneracy.
>>74636944
I know what you mean. I think the dreamlike quality is works like these are so fantastical that it elicits a somewhat sublime alienation. For me this actually brings me closer to art instead of feeling like an observer and the awareness that as the observer I'm somehow effecting my own experience of it in how well I qualify it's value. Instead some kinds of art seem to grip you into them.
If you like this kind of stuff, you should look up on wikiart the category of "intimism".

i wonder what killed classical-style art? People to this day still paint portraits, but with 7 billion people on this planet you'd think we'd have more talent available and we'd be cranking out Mona Lisa-tier paintings every month.

>>74646608
Yeah, it's easy to see where Hitler's hate for "entartete kunst" came from. Part of me agrees, because the obsession of the day with "renewing" art was beyond sickening.
It reminds me of Han van Meegeren, a "forger" who made new paintings in the style of Vermeer, and sold them as such. When he put his own name on them, he was laughed away as an oldfashioned hack, but when he claimed they were newly discovered works of the old master, they sold at top prices.
Ironically, he became a folk hero for pulling one over on the Nazis, because he sold to them, too. But in effect, he was saying the exact same thing about art.
Definitely one of the great forgotten artists of the last century. It is rare that you find an artist who, himself, is the work of art.

at first glance I thought that was a photograph, amazing artist.
Why don't people paint like this anymore, /pol/?
>>74649954
They do. But photography has rendered photo-realistic paintings useless as a form of expression. People won't get credit in the art industry for creating them considering they are not relevant to the current art movement, so they are basically a waste of time for skilled painters to create unless they are commisioned.

It can be said that he pulled those paintings out of his ass
