Compounds and Longs are good for target shooting. I got a crossbow because it was originally for rabbits, I knew nothing about them so bought the most powerful one. The fucking thing obliterates rabbits. I use aimpoints for dicking around, and 'custom' points for hunting.
Best example I can say, we were shooting a cow skull for months with .22 air rifles. It was just our generic plinking target. The crossbow with aimpoints went in through the front, out through the back, the fibreglass bolt exploded into shards of orange spiky death glass. Aimpoints just go 'through' shit, broadheads and other points tear shit apart.

Yeah, aimpoints are the twiddly little shitpoints you get as standard on bolts. You can hot glue nailgun charges to the front (as I posted above) and make things go boom, but they really are for back yard fuckery.
Broadheads, I've found the best to be ones with decent centre points, with 3 or 4 razor straight barbs. You can get ones that supposedly make the bolt spin in flight, but I don't trust all the fancy shit ones. Regular barbs have taken down deer zero problem, it scrambles their brains up good. You do have to cut it out with a knife though, but you cant win them all.

I disagree. The difference between guns and melee weapons (e.g. swords) is that guns are egalitarian - meaning that they are relatively easy to master. When the only available weapons are swords, society will be dominated by an elite caste of warriors trained to use them - in other words, you have feudalism. It's no accident that feudalism started to crumble when guns were introduced into battlefields - for the first time, an illiterate peasant with month of training could kill a knight. (crossbows worked in similar way, that's why the Church tried to prohibit them)
