The entire reason inheritance taxes exist for the filthy rich (unless you are inheriting more than a million dollars this barely affects you) is economic justice.

As someone who just lost a grandfather, who had a not insignificant amount of wealth by the end of his life due to his hard work and diligence in investing his money, the way around it is to have a trust set up, but to also start years in advance of the end of the time giving your kids right up to the amount that requires being divulged on your 1040 as a gift.
