History has shown that primary votes are a very poor predictor of the general election.
I've read that the reason is likely because the candidates running the primary are closer in political views than the candidates running in the general. When the candidates are closer in their views, the voters aren't as motivated, so turnout is lower.
For example, a Democrat might not have a strong opinion about Hillary versus Bernie, so he might not bother voting in the primary -- figuring that either is acceptable. But that same Democrat could have a very strong opinion against Trump, so he could be extremely motivated to vote in the general election.

Very purple state this year. It's a coin toss so far, slightly leaning toward Hillary. Too many people know what a fraud Trump is, since he's been in the news for decades as a "local" by proximity to New York. There's a strong right-wing base outside the major cities, but (as Romney discovered) population does not equal lad area when looking at the map.
Also, PA has a number of other Republican problems (such as Toomy and an out-of-control legislature that's been fucking the citizens hard and bloody). There's going to be turnout to change some of that, and it's likely to carry over into extra votes for Hillary.
PA is more likely to go blue than red this year. Pockets of screaming right-wing retards notwithstanding. The state was an economic powerhouse under Bill Clinton; a lot of very fond memories from his administration after the fucking the state took under Reagan/Bush I. Bernie's crowds are way larger than Hillary's, but Bernie has no chance. Crowd size means very little in today's new reality.
The new reality (growing for about the past 20 years) is that people simply don't switch parties anymore, no matter how bad their party's candidate is. The polls are showing this -- there is a very high correlation between the party that people have voted in the past and how they're planning to vote this time.
Going forward, the biggest thing that's going to flip states is demographics. For example, the reason Colorado went from red to blue is because of hispanics. It's definitely NOT because individuals in Colorado changed from R to D -- that almost never happens anymore. Instead, it was mostly because of two things: (1) old whites dying out, and (2) lots of 18-21 year old hispanics voting for the first time.
That's the huge new earthquake that's completely changing American political campaigns. Swing voters don't matter anymore, because there's too few of them left. Today, American politics is all about the demographics. Demographics is the biggest factor now -- swing voters are gone, and ads are old and busted. Political campaigns are shitting themselves in agony because ads just don't work well anymore -- and they don't know what to do about it. To be a "D" or an "R" has actually been elevated to a full-blown cultural identity, and party affiliation has hardened like concrete. I know that's a huge departure from the old conventional wisdom, but it's the new reality now.
Let's put it this way, if you're convinced that Trump can win NY, then go to one of those British betting sites, put down £1,000, and you'll probably walk away with £100,000 easy when he wins. If you know something that very few others do, then you might as well make a shit load of money from it.

How do I know this? I did some political polling in Michigan. The only people who ever said they were going to vote for Hillary would say things like "I guess...." or "I think I'll probably..."
And it was almost always older black ladies. Black guys often said they didn't know. Or they'd say "My wife says I should vote for Hillary" (which tells you how fucking small of a number of guys that was).
Bernie wins with college kids, and with liberal parents of kids in college or high school. Almost 100% of those kids, both conservative and liberal, hate Hillary.
I found all types of people who liked Trump. Rich old guys, working class young guys, UNEM-FUCKING-PLOYED whites. However, I don't think he can beat Bernie at this point.
I was laughing my ass off during primaries here because everyone I work with was saying we were all off by a long shot on all of our numbers because of Nate Silver. "He knows better than we do so what is wrong?"

This is an important thing to consider as well, thanks to Obama's racial politics a lot of white guys in places like PA are finally starting to feel like they have an "identity" and they think it's under attack. The Republicans' messaging has really been bad over the past several years, if you think about it. Many non-black minorities could be sympathetic to the Republican party if they hadn't continued with the Southern Strategy and basically been the racist party in the face of demographic changes.
What's hilarious about this is that the social conservatives engineered the defeat of their own policies by doing this. The people who actually support social liberalism are fucking white people. Minorities who might otherwise vote Repubican end up voting Democrat because they're scared of the Republicans. Blacks defeated gay marriage in California, after all. Even within the Democratic party, the support for very liberal policies mostly comes from white people. Bernie Sanders literally lost the nomination because of the dindus.
