Sometimes the art is kinda cool looking but it usually is a blight on the sides of buisnesses who pay good money to attract potential customers into their establishments. When you go to buy hardware equipment or whatever and there's pot leaves, gang affiliations and cocks spraypainted all over the side of the place, it looks shitty. On the 7 train going to Citi Field (Mets stadium) there's a shit ton of graffiti like this. People do even better works of art and once you're out of the subway riding above Queens you'll see it all of the place. Very cool. There's some properly good shit there sometimes, your ugly generic tagging is kind of rare because it's a pretty middle class area and there are normally lots of people nearby watching.

I used to do graffiti back in 2006-2007, I had friends that would get into train stations at night and paint wagons, I never did that but sure painted a lot of walls. There's two kinds of graffiti artists: artists that are always looking for the adrenaline rush, painting trains, private property, high altitude spots, etc and artists that just want to paint on walls, better if legal. I did it because it was a really intense experience, you knew the police could appear any minute and in fact they did a few times, thankfully they never catched me.
But today I hate most graffiti artists, they are mostly kids on their 15-18 doing really shitty artwork (tagging and shit like that) and never trying to improve or paint something different that isn't a stupid nickname with bubbles. Also, I'm an architect now, so I really hate it when I see painted marble, stone or any wall on a private house, it really makes me wanna smash skulls, fucking kids.
