Start step by step, small things.
Pray for yourself when you are alone, think prayers in your head.
Even considering go to the bathroom and pray, I did that.
I bought a bracelet with jesus and a necklace with a cross without telling anyone.
When I started to wear the cross, people started to ask me a lot of questions.
So buy a cross and wear it so people can see it, its a good "ice-breaker".
Then they already understand that you are a christian without words have been spoken.
But in the end you just have to stay true to yourself.

The threat of eternal damnation doesn't really sound like "free will". Unless it is the will induced by fear of dying and the desire to live(which, according to what I understand, God gave us those desires and fears, we had no choice in the matter).
Much like how someone can point a gun to your head and tell you to eat a piece of garbage or he will shoot you. Technically, you have a choice, and thus have an expression of free will. But is it really free will when you have a strong negative incentive.
And this case, the negative incentive, hell, is literally defined as the worst possible place to be, and you are stuck there for eternity?
Whether it is a piece of garbage or a piece of cake doesn't really mean much at the point of a gun, it is still a joke to call that free will.

ESV is the best translation for study and understanding. it's poetic style is based on the KJV but it is an essentially literal translation of the Bible from the original texts.

It is actually very good to fear God and do it purely out of fear.

In any version of a Bible you will read many times in it how much people feared God or feared his prophecy or feared his words.
The Bible is full of this fear. The fear is also a feature of the holy spirit. God uses the holy spirit to send his message, and one feature of the holy spirit is "the fear of God".
Its absolutely nothing wrong to praise God or have a relationship with him from a pure fearful thought, and in fact is encouraged.
But when you understand it, its not so much that you fear God, that it is, that you fear to be without God, and that you fear the evil one and Gods only son is the protection to call upon.

It saddens me how normal and trendy the persecution of Christians is in our own countries now. When ever someone my age finds out I'm a practicing Catholic the response is always the same. If it's a boy they usually tip their fedora at me, and if it's a girl they tell me how evil and oppressive Christianity is. Yet I know both of them would be supportive of a muslim.
It's sad that this is what the world has come to.
