I knew races were different, but they flood your brain with excuse after excuse to nip that in the bud before it even takes hold. It took years for me to finally admit to myself that there are fundamental differences between the races.

At some point in my father's youth he pissed off his entire family in New York and moved to Florida. He stopped going to temple and as a result didn't make any Jewish connections in Florida. (neither did I, I wish we had gone to temple because there are great business connections to be made)
Jewish people are by nature the most nationalistic. No other people, despite not living in their land of origin, has refused to assimilate for so long. They get away with it because they're smart and they always throw each other favors.
You'd be incredibly surprised the lengths Jewish organized religion goes to to make sure that Jewish people are loyal to other Jews above all else. Go to temple one day, say you're visiting or from out of town, and just listen to what the Rabbi says. It's not like the Christian "do good to other people because it's what Jesus would have done", it's "Support your Jewish brothers or be punished because that's what God says"
