26,400(1.05^(23)) is about what she has to pay back. This seems like a charitable investment considering the bank has to tie its money up for 23 fucking years and has a pretty high risk to bust because this shit bird will serve java with her female public hair studies degree.

Probably, if they let all that shit just default then the US economy would suddenly lose all the equity from them which would probably degrade our nations credit rating leading to a lack of faith.

Don't take out loans you cannot pay back.

Don't go to an out of state college if you cannot afford it. Go to a local state school and pay ~$3k / yr and never go into debt.

This is why I will never support bullshit ideas like "free college for all!" College is and never was a necessity, college degrees these days are incredibly over-valued, because most degrees are simply worthless.

Well colleges can and do raise tuition every year and will have people that pay for it no matter the cost. Tuition prices are the major problem not gov't funding. Enjoy being debt free by the time you're 60 or something retarded. All that freedom from your debts just in time to become old, frail and decrepit. What a life.

I estimate 4.66% APR for subsidized loans, so that translates to ~0.39% interest per month (I think it's compounded yearly, I don't remember). That means that in order to keep up and not have the debt grow, she would need to pay $102.52/month. These numbers aren't adding up, I think she must be lying. It would be impossible for her debt to grow if she was making this minimum payment (principle would shrink if she pays more, like your math implies). I'm calling shenanigans, she's probably lying to make a political point.
>>
>>74311786
Yeah, the math in that picture does not add up. Even with using average student loan rates (4.66%) which is probably what that person got that is some bum fucking retarted math.

Either she's not being honest in her payments or lying like a fucking rug. Then again when has there not been "little white lies" in politics to promote an agenda "For the greater good man."

>Here is the math

26,400 to which the agreed upon general rules of student loans are no interest or payment until after college is finished. From the size of her loan its probably community college.

26400 + (4.66% x 26400) = monthly interest accumulation (1230.24) That's just to pay interest. Her minimum payments will be slightly above that since it is illegal for a bank to charge a minimum payment under interest thanks to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regulations (CFPB) and Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA which has been modified and amended since 1977) her minimum payments would be at least 3% higher than interest. This equals 1267.15. If she has been paying 1267.15 for 23 years as her minimum payment. She would have roughly 18000 dollars left. That picture is fucking hilariously wrong in so many ways.

>this is brought to you by a jew who works in the loan department of a bank.

I know, way to keep up the stereo type.
>>
>>74329434
> 26400 + (4.66% x 26400) = monthly interest accumulation (1230.24)

Assuming yearly interest compounding, you need to take the 4.66% (actually I think it's closer to 4.3%) and divide it by 12 to get a monthly interest rate. That's how I got 0.39%, which yields a monthly payment of $102.52 to keep the principle from growing. She claims it has increased, but that clearly isn't the case.

Oh wait, you did what I did but yearly, regardless we have the same result.

I've always wondered. Whether or not you get financial aid is if your parents are rich or not right? What if you just plan with your parents to get "disowned" (since you are 18+ after all). Then you'd have no income, *technically* homeless (but can secretly stay home, although obviously don't set your mail box there etc), etc and you can get still get financial aid?

My parents were dirt poor so I got all my tuition paid in full. 15k per year.
>>
>>74318632
Easy bro.
That's around $400 per week or $1600 per month. You pay like $230 per month. Just pay an extra $200 per month and watch the time it will take to pay off the loan go from 13 years to 3 years. Live super cheap man. Any more than $50 per week on food is a waste and nobody needs an $800 iPhone. If you absolutely have to move out then try to split rent on an apartment with someone to save money. $12/hr is great even in Canadian pesos where it's minimum wage (inflation making it worth less)

If you know how to exercise restraint and self control then paying off loans isn't too tough. Although next time you may want to consider saving up more of the cost to avoid the killer interest costs first.
>>
>>74314611

Once they've had their warning and they still want to take out that loan to go to college to party and earn a worthless degree in gender studies or some shit...well...you were warned GOY.
>>
>>74332487

Because when you make minimum payments most of it is just going towards paying of the interest and barely even making a dent in the principal, meaning you stay in debt longer and the bank makes more money off of you.
>>
>>74332487
if you pay the minimum it will take you longer to pay it all off, which means more interest will build up, making you pay even more for even longer.
If you pay more than the minimum then it won't take as long to pay it back, and the interest won't have as much time to build up.
>>
>>74311786
>$26,000 borrowed
>$45,000 owed

How?

I'm still almost $10K in my student loan, and am chipping away at it. When I signed the loan, I was given a plan that would pay it off in 15 years or so. The monthly payment was calculated at that time in a way that I will always pay more than the interest that month, and some of the principal would go down. I thought that's how EVERY loan works.

Are people taking out loans with minimum payments being LESS than the interest that compounds over the month? Who the fuck would sign such a thing?

>>
>>74332487
Yeah, so what you want to do is pay the largest amount of money you can as early as you can. Let's say you borrowed $20k. If you can pay $10k of that immediately then only $10k begin to grow interest. Let's use your interest rate, 0.9%, (is that accurate? that seems very low for a yearly interest rate, do you have an 800+ credit score?). So, after 1 year, $20k (assuming no payment is made) will grow by $180 the first year, then an additional $180 + (0.009)(180) = $181.62 the following year, which will continue to compound. Now, with $10k (assuming no payment again) your debt will grow by $90 the first year, then 90 + (0.009)(90) = $90.81 the following year. So, basically, the principle compounds by that 0.9% every year, so if you knock as much of that out as you can as early as you can, you'll see less of the principle compounding every year, thus saving yourself money in the long run, especially if you pay it off early, so that you'll have some years after where the debt won't be compounding (or 0$ would be, so the interest is $0). Of course, it's also nice to pay off the debt early so that you don't have any debt hanging over your head.

I can't speak for everyone, but I had compounding interest in algebra II (or maybe precalcalculus, I don't remember). It was in there with radioactive decay and some other examples of exponential growth/decay. If it was algebra II, then (in my state) everyone had to take it.

She clearly didn't major in math. The only way that is possible is if she didn't pay any money towards that debt (or some number that was less than the interest building on the debt). If she paid $32k, it is not possible for her to now owe $45k if she borrowed $26k.

>What cost $26400 in 1983 would cost $63343.01 in 2015.
>Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2015 and 1983,
they would cost you $26400 and $10931.52 respectively.

My parents could have easily paid my student loans, but they didn't (and won't unless it looks like they're about to ruin my credit score), so I've been in investment banking for the past almost 2 years. I've been making the payments (and more), but I realized that I can't continue with the 90 hour work weeks investment banking has. I figured that since I was already looking to apply to OCS and join the Army (first choice), that would also be beneficial because they pay a portion of your student loans (I think it's like $65k, so more than most people have).

Just don't do a stupid study.

Better yet, get a blue collar job.

We switched to a system closer to the US because it was getting too expensive.
It's still subsidized but students are expected to loan these days.

Besides, you don't need a degree since blue collar jobs most often don't need a degree and pay good enough.

>inb4 waaaahhh I don't want that kind of work
Fuck off

Less than minimum payments and blazing up with the rest of the cash. Most of that is late fees, and pay the damned drug dealer fees.

And sell any assets to her children for a low price to avoid their children inheriting her debt.
Whoops, that was supposed to be my secret.

According to biblical scripture, usury is bad, unless it's for the glory of the church.
