I realised the other day how much of a pseud Stefan is, he even does that thing pretentious Americans do sometimes where they even adopt a slight British accent with some words in order to sound more self important. He frames his channel as an elaborate philosophy conversation. All of the signals he puts out are "this is what smart people like, look how smart we are" and in some cases that's true, but sometimes it's just signalling.
This is a bad example put I was listening to him talk to his friend about Trump before and he said "it'd be like a great white taking on a..." he didn't just say "shark" like a normal person, he does the Dennis Miller thing of repeated references.
I actually like Stefan but I can understand how his whole thing nearly became a cult because this attitude is very noticeable in guys like L Ron. Hubbard too. When you have smart, capable people who even still overrate their own intelligence, it leads to these bizarre groupthink cults.

Nobody's going to believe me because I'm posting this randomly in a thread long past its prime, but fuck it, here goes...
I got into FDR pretty heavily a few years back. I was in a vulnerable spot in life: a shiftless NEET who fancied himself an intellectual. I was just the sort of person who Stef preys upon, basically.
I began posting on his forums and helping to do research for a few of his podcasts (because I didn't have shekels at the time to donate). There is HUGE moral pressure to donate time/money/skills to "the cause", and it starts to become a gigantic time suck.
Anyway, I found a girlfriend through FDR (long-distance) and we began to get pulled into Stef's vortex. He is undoubtedly charismatic and determined, but there's something pretty off about him.
I realized things were going south when he started asking my girlfriend VERY personal questions about our sex life. He began to question our "sexual compatibility", said creepy things to her, and even tried to psychoanalyze her. He started filling her head with bullshit about how I was not yet "a real man", and how she would never be satisfied without a "strong daddy figure". It was fucked up and their Skype conversations started making her crazier and crazier.
In short... I agree with him philosophically about many things, but I think he gets a weird sexual thrill out of manipulating those in his thrall. The cult-like atmosphere is real, and there are ZERO healthy boundaries between him and his followers.
I wound up leaving my gf and she found another FDR faggot (some balding fuck who rides a motorcycle and thinks he's a "sovereign citizen").
Just remember to take Stef with a grain of salt. He has never gotten over his fucked up childhood, and now his adult life is spent exerting control over others. In many ways, he's everything he claims to despise.
